Why is a mini engine not suitable, ?
as i am 100% sure i used a 1275 one in my 66 midget, that i had taken out of my brotherinlaws Mini
Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at

Yes the crankshaft is different,
forgot about that, as it was about 1979 !

The crank is the main difference, and also the rear main bearing cap is different so would involve sourcing the correct type and line boring etc.
There are a number of other smaller differences, e.g. dipstick hole, oil pump pickup etc.
The Maestro/Montego 1.3 engine is a RWD drive type A-series (though mated to a FWD transaxle) and has been used in Morris Minors/MG Midgets etc.
though the sump/oil pickup is different IIRC.

There is a Maestro van near me , don't know if it is petrol or diesel but I could check if you want . It's not likely to be going anywhere
, it's been stuck on a drive way for at least 5 years. I also know someone that is looking at a K series conversion for his 1275 MG Midget
