Front number plate
Evening all. My front number plate is cracked and I have MOT soon. It measures 420mm x 90mm
Does anyone know where I can get exact same size or very similar? I have come across fancyplates and platesforcars but they seem expensive at £30 for
one plate.
As always, many thanks for any suggestions, Matt.

If it helps buy you time, my plate has been smashed for 8 years and not failed. As long as it's readable it'll pass. You will get an
advisory though.

As long as it's not :
"faded, dirty, delaminated, deteriorated or
obscured, (for example by a towbar) so
that it is likely to be misread or is not easily
legible by a person standing approximately
20 metres to the front/rear of the vehicle"
then it'll pass.

Some people have bought number plates with the Euro/GB symbol on the side, then cut off the blue bit. This gives a smaller plate that should be legal
(possibly ).

As above if it's legible and not obscured then it should be a pass with a possible advisory.
I've used these people several times and always been pleased with the plates...

I have a smaller square plate on the front that is called an import plate. You see them on Eunos MX5's etc.
I have a 4x4 plate on the back that sits next to my spare wheel, like on a Land Rover rear door.
These were my first plates and were made while the number plate machine was connected to the DVLA computer.
They therefore cannot be illegal. I think that they cost £30 the pair.
I bought new standard size plates for my MX5 off of eBay and requested " MiXi " in small writing on the bottom.
They were £20 and it turned out they came from Northern Ireland. They have no postcode on them so technically
they are illegal. MOT due in March so we shall see. (I still have the old tatty ones)

Grab a photo and ask the MOT garage.
Letter of the law, my front number plate is illegal is pretty much every aspect, its a sticker one thats smaller and not vertical. Have never had an
issue. IMO its better to have something than a front plate that constantly gets ripped off due to the nature of the car.

If your plate is 90mm high, by my understanding it's illegal anyway, according to this document, the minimum letter height is 79mm with an 11mm
border top and bottom = 101mm

That said, I run a small plate on my striker, I bought one from ebay, listed as a "Short plate 16x4.4" which is designed for cars with 6
digit numbers, the auction had a "show plates" option. They made my 7 character plate up with smaller text, when I got it, I used a
stanley knife and metal straight edge to trim it to the size I wanted, then sanded it smooth and added radii with sand paper
I paid £12 inc postage
I've just been on to ebay, I've found the seller, but they don't sell plates any more, but they do sell butt plugs!!!! Honestly
Description
I fitted this plate, post MOT so don't know if it would pass, I do have a full size one that I'll probably fit for the test

Good move
They graced my last two tin tops and the wife's current tin top too. All have passed MoT without any issue or advisory.

Well you might have warned us earlier about the number plate/butt plug change of business.
I ordered a set of 20" x 4.5" as a surprise birthday present for my wife. I knew she would prefer "full-size" ones.
The online order form should have raised my suspicions.
Did I want Hypoallergenic/easy clean??
Pink or Black??
What's that all about?
I did select "Textured finish". I thought it might be something to do with fooling speed cameras.
This morning the courier arrived very early and my wife answered the door. He apologised for knocking her up and explained that he had tried to shove
his package into her box but had only succeeded in getting it stuck. She ended up squatting down and forcing it out by herself.
She figured out that it must be a birthday pressie and asked me for a clue as to what it was but I wasn't giving the game away. I just told her
that she might want to open it in the garage.
"Why? Is it something for my Boxster?" she enquired.
"Closer than you think dear", I replied.
She asked me to open the back door as she had her hands full and disappeared out to the garage.
That was eight hours ago. She's locked herself in. I've heard some groaning and moaning.
Now I know why!

Well it's alright for you lot having a laugh, I've just got back from A&E.
The paramedic couldn't prise the bottle jack from between her knees and even the combined efforts of myself, the Chief Fire Officer and helpful
advice from a passing nun couldn't budge the offending article firmly lodged in her chute.
Long story short, the combined flue specialist in A&E, goes by the name of Perry Kneeham, has performed some restorative pipeline reconstruction
and a partial chuffectomy.
When I got back home my neighbour told me he had noticed the smell of burning rubber earlier but dismissed it as some arsehole doing burnouts.
And I'll never get my hands clean.
