Rear Boot Panel - Finish??
G'day Fellow Locosters,
After checking various options, it seems to me that the finishes, for this "boot lid" -
Bot_Lid_Assy
are, 1) Spray paint, 2) Powder coat, or 3) Vinyl wrap. (Or possibly 4) Anodising),
Which would you recommend, from your experience??

Morning Dick,
I made my boot top panel from plywood with a hinged flap. Covered with a layer of 3mm thick sponge foam and then a layer of black vinyl (wrapped
around and under the edges). I worked on a flat surface (kitchen table) and used aerosol carpet adhesive to bond each layer together. I did the same
on my dashboard and tunnel top cover as well.

I made mine from black ABS plastic but the panels tend to expand and buckle in the sun, so I'm currently re-doing them with 6mm marine ply, then
primer, gloss, then sanded slightly for a final spray with dry film lube which gives a matt black effect. Same as my dash.
Whatever finish you choose, make sure it's compatible with petrol as I notice you have fuel filler hole and you will occasionally spill some
during filling. Vinyl wrap would be good option I think for your ali boot lid, maybe leaving the SS hinges exposed?
Where did you get those hinges by the way? I'm after some nice stainless steel ones.

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

Fuel spillage is certainly a valid point!
I had a hinged flap so I could access my fuel filler cap that was directly on the top of the fuel tank itself. I did spill fuel a few times, but it
ran down the side of the ally fuel tank and dripped onto the ground.

Thanks all for your advice, and Salter (Keith) in particular, for reminding me about possible fuel spillage !
Hinges were from the 'Bay. Will try to locate vendor.
