plastic

I havent yet resieved my copy of the sva yet and was wondering if there's anything in it about using 4-5mm plastic sheating for all body panals????, this is easily sourced as i work with plastics and can get it for virtually free. (also got all my steel through work, staff discount and had change from £60.... lovely). hope to start building real soon.

4 - 5 mm seems a bit thick for the body panels. You can probably get away with about 2mm but I'd stick with a steel floor and steel footwells, these tend to be load bearing to a certain extent. Transmission tunnel may get hot and warp the plastic. There are bends in the outer panels around the rear and at the front at the lower wishbones but I'm sure you'll be able to work something out.

theres two types i'm thinking of using...

1: Is an ABS, which in 2mm may be a little brittle, hence 4mm. flamability wise i'll have to take a "blow torch" to it to see.

2: Is a nylon, shouldn't crack or warp but could be a bugger to form propally, but wack the "Strip bender" up full with a good solid jig to form it around and i should get a pretty good end result. Should be ok flamable wise, again i'll put it through the old "Flame thrower" to see how it stands up.

i'm only thinking of using it for the outer panels, floor and footwells etc will be steel. its going to be a while till i'm ready for panels so i've got time to test out different plastics.

Interior panels, yes exterior no. Think of the expansion! I sell dashes and interior panels made from embossed polypropelene but would never use it externally, or any other plastic come to that!

Chris

Do you make dashes and interior pannels for the MK Indy? If so can you email me prices and pics if any or link to your website.

Cheers

Andy

Bob.....

Looks like i won't be able to make it on 3rd as i have had my nephew dumpped on me for the whole weekend. I'll try and worm my way out for a couple of hours, depends if the wife will let me out to play!

CHRIS: Sorry mate but i can't see anything relating to price etc for the dash and panels. The for sale link does not work.... or rather it goes to a blank 404 error page. Any chance of the actual page address Pleeeeeeeeeeeease?

Andy
