GRP panel thickness

HI, can anyone tell me the general thickness of gfp body panels most people are using? I thought about 5mm?
And does anyone know how many layers of CSM glassfibre is needed to create a good thickness of body panel?

Thanks.

mine seems to be thicker at the bottom than the top. gravity? In places it is only 2mm thick but in others it is 5 or 6mm.

The new shape elise has 2mm GRP but this is painted rather than having gelcoat.

I have made GRP panels for other applications using 2 layers of 600g woven roving with a middle layer of 300g CSM. This makes a very strong panel that is light and strong when well rolled. (about 3kg /m2 IIRC)

As for CSM only, I don't know. Try making some test panels. 3 layers of 300g CSM as a starter.

thanks for the advice. I was looking for a starting point realy. Its interesting that the new elise is 2mm.
I Might paint the bonnet and boot silver unless a good silver gelcoat is available. And gelcoat the side panels.

Most 7 type body is two layers of 450g matt which ends up roughly 3mm to 4mm thick. But where they fix to the chassis the edges tend to be thicker........all depends who made it at the end of the day.
