Pre build sketches / design

any body done any pre build skethes/draught designs for their locost? anybody mine sharing? I am looking for design cues/ inspiration/ etc, particulrley about why design cues wern't chosen. I know a seven s a minimalist car, but style and functionality must still be possible.

I, for instance, particulaly like the semi oval/rounded rectangle in the nose and am thinking about how that aspect of the car can be repeated/extended over the car. perhaps in the dash, sterring wheel shape, and echos of the lines, (or half the line) with the wheel arches?

Just thinking aloud really, but would appreciate everyones comments.

c'mon!

over 330 reads and no responses. some ofyou must have started designing/building, why did you decide to go for that couler, that style of wheel, cycle or swept wings!, dial placement on dash, dash shape, interior trim,???

really any deliberate reason about why you CHOSE to fdo it that way, other than 'cos its like that in the book'!

shape of the 'boot' I know theres one gut on here tawho has taken a styling cue from a marlin?/morgan, someone else i think has been inspired the triumph spitfire.

If you build a book chassis, the rest just falls into place - no drawings, nowt!
Dash design was dictated by using the Escort clocks and Manta column. The only actual design that I drew up (about 10 times) was the windscreen uprights. I thought most were too steep, so I drew it up in CAD first.

Once I get to the point of building a dash, I'll make a rough sketch and then try it and see. I'll prob do the same with the rear lights.

Thanks!

I know if i stick yo the book, then a lot of it be dictated, BUT the book still allows for a lot of varients , just gota look at the pictures in the back of the 2nd edition. Also I want a wider car, so its comfy, and corresponding extra comfiness in he interior rim, which the book is lacking. As I am after a 442, thenbodywork will have to be custom, (except the nose), so why not put a few styling ques in? Much of this thread stem from impulse buying a book on designing cars, particulalry the sections on how to draw them, in a similar fashion to Dales drawings.

I'm one of the 330. It took a long time before I remembered I actually had a designe sketch for a seven. Here it is

IMHO keeping the green line won't hurt the top line
the top line

The seven is a well known and very simplistic design and there isn't any need for extensive planing, you can let it evolve while you build. Unless you plan to stray some from the path like Dale or the plans I have.

I really like the boat tail layout you have. By the time I desided that I like that style I had the back of the chassis done with the main bar behind the seats that holds the shockmounts. Was too high and wide at that point to work. The rear suspension would have to be redone.

Thanks for the response, its good to see other peoples ideas! I really like the alterations to the back of the cars. Will put pen to paper tonight, so watch this space. (though no doubt it will be a while before i manage to actually draw anything presentable).
