Carbon Fibre Suppliers

In case anybody wants to know, I've just ordered a sheet of single ply carbon fibre for the dash, 50"x18" for £45+vat. All other suppliers that I know of sell it in 40" widths (and a bit deeper) for about the same price, which leaves it a bit short on the edges (I've seen a number of finished cars with this problem!).

I did have a sheet of this other stuff which was a bit scratched on one side, but I cocked up the marking out, so Now it will be made into something else!

That's a laminated single ply sheet, glassy on one side, rough on the other.

Thats not particularly cheap if you wanted to do it yourself you could do about half a dozen for that price.

I can easily match this price and do what ever you want in terms of thickness and to your own design if you fancy. I have made a honeycomb structural dash board, which is awesomely light and very stiff.

When making a carbon dash from a flat piece what do you do about the rad that there has to be at the bottom?

I can see that if you layed it up yourself you could make it with one in it.

I made my dash out of ally and the rad i bent at the bottom made the dash a lot stiffer. I need to make it again cos im unhappy with the way ive done the cutout around the steering wheel.
I think that i may just have about a 30mm hole in the dash for this now. Ive been thinking about cutting down the sierra steering column top section and welding on a piece of tube with a boss on it for the steering column. This will made it look a lot tidier but im unsure about sva

Where in the world are you? I too would be interested in a boot lid (but of a more trad flat nature)! Also a flower box style "boot" itself so i can store stuff out of the footwell.

Cheers m8.

Mark,

Speak to PTM he can do all the bits you need. I got a nice hinged boot lid from him recently, very nice.
