Race car livery ideas please
Hello All,
Its official - i HATE the colour of my car. Oxford blue is just too dark and dull. When clean and shiny it looks dull, after 5 mins on the road it
looks pitted. To cut a long story / whinge short - its got to go.
OK so onto my problem. Iam not artistic and colour creative. I do fancy some form of motorsport livery replica. I like the Gulf colour schemes a lot
but there is a few about so before going down that road does anyone have some great pics of race car colour schemes that will look great on a
se7en?
A few rules for me:
1. Red is out as the principle colour (bad news colour for me).
2. Im not keen on yellow.
3. I dont like bright greens.
4. I love blue.
5. Needs to be quite simple so it wont cost too much for the paint job (budgets etc).
Many thanks in advance for your suggestions and pics,
Darren.

Cover it in stripes and stickers
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Now theres an idea.......... The stripes have helped to lift the colour but after living with it for a few weeks it looks like a dull car covered in
stickers! Not really what i want to end up with. A saying about silk purses comes to mind - hence colour inspiration question.

Bung on some Cobra stripes, put roundals on the sides, bonnet and rear panel and get loads of racing stickers and make it look like a racing car?

I would have thought your best bet would be to go F1 style. The dark blue of your car would make a perfect background for a Williams colour scheme
or Red Bull
Chris_R works for Signs Express in Gateshead, and once offered to wrap my car for me. They do taxis and vans all the time.

If you come up to the MetroCenter at all try ModelZone (opposite Starbucks) they have display cases full of models in just about every livery you
could think of.

I have to say i really do like the orange on the Halfords BTCC car with the black and silver. Whole car in warm orange metallic with nose cone and
broad cobra style stripe in dark graphite or diamond black finished off with a narrower silver stripe inside the black one........ Wings painted in
the dark graphite. Roll cage and chasis remaining in silver. Seats re-painted etc.
The Rizla blue is very nice. Ive also been thinking along the lines of the benetton F1 colour schemes.
Some great ideas coming through here. I can also see how some of the ideas can be put down in paint and then jazzed up with Vinyl later (good for
spreading cost and also allowing future changes)

I know you said not red but how about the original Lotus 49 Gold Leaf Team Lotus? Red over white with gold band and nose like my Avatar?
Firstly it is a Lotus scheme second it was the first product liveried car after the ban on advertising was lifted. Thead was limited to something like
11"X 7" so as to be not visible on the BBC TV coverage Colin Chapman blootered that by using the colour scheme over the entire car with
the small add on the side by the cockpit!
Failing that Lotus British Racing Green with yellow noseband and single broad stripe.

Not exactly racing livery but...
....when I go for the colour change on the Viento, I'm thinking of doing this - with the stripe in the middle matching the ali side panels.

slapping some orange onto it would be the most cost effective way, assuming you don;t wantto repaint all of it.
I always toyed of painting my MGB, when I had it, half white, half black right down the middle so spending on whcih side you look at, it is too
different cars!

I reckon it would look good in Silver Arrow colours, with the orange/red stripe down the centre. Old McLaren Mercedes style.
