Design opinions please

To get some cold air into my engine bay I've just installed some side vents in my middy and I am not sure if I like them or not ............. so I will put it to the collective.

Do they look ok or am I kidding myself ? (excuse the brushed on primer)
You can be brutally honest - I can take it I am also interested in any alternative solutions

p.s. See if you can guess what car the vents are from

I think I'd prefer a simple hole, nicely blended in... what you've got looks just like an "add-on".

Sorry to be so blunt - but you did ask!

David

What about these:

www.nfauto.co.uk

should be more efficent as well (less drag as they don't stick out at all - thats why race cars use them)

Recessed would look good, like a factory would fit. Cut a hole and plant on top gives a Corsa boy racer look IMHO.

Sorry

In my opinion, for what it's worth, I think they look fine.

i think that if the wheel arch was round & perhaps an inch or two forward they'd look great.

As it is, not bad.

Ok guys, thanks for all the input - I think the concensus is that the vents officially suck like a rabid dog.

The jigsaw is being revved up as we speak and I will hopefully post a pic when I have .... erm ..... revised the vent.

mcerd1 - those NACA ducts are plastic so cannot be blended in. I have used a couple of GRP ones in the engine cover and they might look ok, although I'm going to leave a dirty great hole when I cut the louvres out

ps Brian - come round whenever you can mate - no cold beers left though

I had a feeling that you'd already taken a dislike to it!

I have always found that if I did something on my car and I wasn't really happy with it then I might as well start again - because sooner or later I was going to do it again, anyway!

Yeah, that's my way of thinking too, although I am aware that I can get a bit too consumed by the process and forget about the finished product (if that makes sense) It is always good to get another point of view and the great thing about this forum is that you can ask like minded people and get honest answers.

Hi Razman,

How about something like this?

Bet you could quickly knock them up out of grp then blend them in.

Wonderful stuff!

I like your first one Hammerhead - a bit like westf27's TT one above. It wouldn't take much to mould one in GRP as you say.

The flush version is also good - thanks indykid

I like that leto, although it is perhaps a little too complex for me to mould at this stage of the build - I am hoping to be going to SVA in a few weeks!

I might save that for the Mk2

UPDATE:-

I have revised the design incorporating some of the ideas given, although time constraints didn't allow me to do anything more radical (maybe next rebuild)
I have left the louvres in place and added a scoop - hopefully making it more effective at ducting air into the engine bay.

What do you think guys? Rescued attachment Side Vent 3.jpg
