cut a hole in bonnet & get as much cool air to the intake as possible.
Cooler air =denser air=more power

I also used the standard motorcraft carb. With the sump set an inch below the chassis the carb stuck out of the bonnet. I dropped the engine a further
3/4" so that the underside of the air filter sat neatly in the hole in the bonnet.
How it all works out for you will depend on the height of you bodywork.

Really silly question I know...but if you have your filter sticking out above the bonnet isnt it going to get waterlogged?
K&N type filters are renowned in the marine industry for being easily clogged with water.....

Made a bonnet bulge/air scoop that fell off after SVA

For SVA I put some rubber trim around the edges of a K&N filter, although I've not taken it off since. To fit the K&N to the Motorcraft
carb I made an adapter plate which is bolted to the filter mounts and fitted to the carb using a big Jubilee clip.

see my photo - I have twin side draught - made hole in bonnet side with some trim o nthe edge and put bottle tops on the wing nuts - no probs with
SVA.
As for rain, think of it as a poor man's water injection system!!
I don' think you'll have a problem, even if the filter was under the bopnnet, you'd still be sucking in some moisture.
