Louvres (again)
Do we really need them?
I'm planning to heat wrap my exhaust which has the 4 branch manifold so pretty much fully covered
Anyone simply not bother and if so - any probs?
By the way ali bonnet Ford XFlow

I've had a lot of problems with no airflow though the engine bay.
One of the next mods is some holes in the bonnet of some sort to let air/heat out.

Watch the video of Wadders at the Teesside trackday in Clubs & Events section.
If you watch the bonnet as he goes down the back straight. (I was getting 98mph down there so he might have been getting slightly more.) The bulge
on the bonnet starts to lift at the back edge until you can see daylight under it and then the back left edge of the bonnet, where it meets the
scuttle starts to open out. No criticism of his build or quality, it just goes to show how much air is getting trapped under the bonnet at speed.
I would vent the bonnet or duct the flow from the rad out the sides.

I cut some neat little triangles in my bonnet with dremel and bonded some black mesh from the back. Makes for a neat modern motorsport style vent.
Also have a look at Hellfires website, they fitted louvres at the back edge (nearest to scuttle) which also look well smart.
I think a search for bonnet vents may give you some alternative ideas. Louvres are great but not locost.

that looks nice, I think unless you are going for the traditional look louvers are a bit old fashioned.

I'm running a crossflow with a lolocost manifold. I haven't any wrap or louvres, but have had no specific problems other than it's a
bit slow to run properly when started from hot, I think because I get a bit of fuel evaporation.

I repalced my f/g bonnet with an ali one. The original had side vents at the rear, so I put louvre vents in the ali one. B&Q ali heating vent
louvres, cut up the middle and riveted in place.
Combined with the small scoop, I don't seem to get any overheating problems, and I've never noticed the rear of the bonnet bulging up, so I
think it must be doing the job!

On the STM motorsport bonnet there are vents as standard (though I must admit I haven't dremelled the holes out yet!!!)....
