Day release courses???
My dad wants me to learn to service our vans (he wont let me do it unqualified ) which will save us about 2k per year, and said there were such
things as 'day release' courses where i can work where i am four days a week and spend the other one in the classroom.
Only problem is that i cant find any such courses. The only ones i can find are learn direct type courses and NVQ's.
Are there any such courses or has anyone done one?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

contact your local technical collage as most do run such courses
either that or tell your old man to stuff it and fix the vans himself

Now, if it had been something useful like Media Studies or Outreach Diversity Gender Reassignment Awareness you would have had no problem.
Maybe ask a local garage if you can work one day a week for no money ?

I hate to be a pedant but....
Did they mean Courses when they wrote Coruses?
<insert paragraph about state of the nation and all that followed by rant about no wonder car servicing is terrible these days, not like when I
were a lad and all that...>

try colleges.
technical collages will only teach you how to use scissors, coloured paper and glue in imaginative ways.

Does his saving of £2k per year take into account....
- a dealer has access to parts and technical support
- a dealer has those nice computers to diagnose things (at about £10k a pop)
- the lost opportunity cost of your time..???
- the devaluation of the vehicles not having a garage stamp in the service book...?
Its not all about the bottom line cost these days !

Washer bottle top up
Wiper blades checked
Brake fluid top up
Grease up nipples( like this!!!)

Yes, i can get parts from various places on the net, we would obviously have to take the vans to a main dealer for any problems that my diagnostic
computer can sort, we can easily free up some of my time and we are not too bothered about the devaluation because they are freezer vans and no-one
seems to buy used freezer vans.
