Half doors
The latest in a long saga of doors/sidescreens/wind deflectors, etc.
Since changing from flyscreen to aeroscreen my doors have not been much use (too high both functionally and aesthetically).
However, after the Detling soaking, I thought some sort of side screens would be good, but I wanted them a bit better looking than the plain ali which
was getting a bit manky, and the method of fixing which wsa a velcro strap (too weak) and metal over centre catch (OK but not quite right). So I...
1. removed the lexan windows, the hinges and the old straps/catches
2. covered each door with material from an old Caterham roof I had (hence the visible "joins" down the side. My main concern was to use a
single piece of material so as to fold over the top and minimise the likelihood of water getting underneath. Evostik outside face; stick folded over
edges onto the inside face; folded over the top edge and stuck down the material on the inside face; trimmed off edges. This also covered up the old
window bolt holes which I put a dab of silicone sealant in.
3. put hinges back on
4. drilled and riveted popper bases onto the inside edge of the top rail
5. cut straps from edge of the hood, including a popper and stitched edges.
6. made rectangular fixing plates from thick ali, drilled and fixed straps on with stainless dome headed bolts.
7. finished off visible nuts with plastic covers.
8. glued a piece of rubber tubing on leading edge to reduce wind/water coming in by the hinges.
et voila!

I'v done a similar thing on my Striker and its surprising how much air is deflected just by a half screen!
looks like you have some decent elbow room too which mine lacks but only becomes an issue on track. Good job anyway.
