Windscreen corner shape.
Hi All.
My next job is to make the screen frame.
I know nothing about cutting glass so I plan to make the frame, then get the glass cut to fit it.
The scuttle top is flat and has a 125mm rad each side.
The question is, how far can I come round the scuttle rad before I create problems for the chap who cuts the glass?
If I go to No1 (green line in the drawing) will that be a weak spot? Is the corner liable to crack when I drive the car?
If I play safe and just go to the red line will I get more wind buffeting?
Will a narrow screen on a wide (+4) car look funny?
So, green, blue, black or red line?
Your opinions please.
Many Thanks
Paul G

no idea about the glass angle.
Stright lines must be the easiest to cut so what about just making it flat along the bottom and having the screen surround fill in the corners (in
grey)?

As someone who (every now and again) cuts laminated galss at work, position 4 is easiest to cut, but 1, 2, and 3 are all as difficult as each
other.
I'd personally go to the widest position.
Imagine what it would be like if there were no hypothetical situations.

Green is the position you should aim for
The corner doesnt really come into it as it is blunted to allow space for your fixings at the intersection of the bottom rail and the top one.
The other important dimention is the height of the screen. Too low ala tiger and you will be looking through the top rail..and likewise to tall looks
stupid and out of place.
top curves should flow and the radius not too big.(about the size of a cd rom is fine)

Thanks very much for your replies chaps.
I didn't have the faintest idea on this one.
02GF74. You have made me think about sloping the sides slightly. My roll bar leans inward
and it would be nice if the edge of the screen matched, (ish)
I'll bend up the ally section and see what it looks like.
Cheers

Paul instead of bending the alloy and deciding it's wrong how about cutting a shape out of some cardboard or mdf you can play about with it and
then do your bending.
