Prop Shaft Prices
Folks,
How much for a prop?
Phoned up Dave Mac in Coventry. Very helpful chap and local. Wants 150 near enough including vat for a heavy duty rebuildable UJ'd prop between
type 9 gearbox and sierra diff. Turn around in 24 hours.
Is that the going rate?
(just realised i should have said i'll collect to see if it gets cheaper).

Try Dunning & Fairbank, I bought one recently from them for considerably less.

If you have a prop to have fiddled with...
Propshaft clinic charge about £30 to shorten....or £60 to lengthen(resleave)

Hi the thing to remember with propshafts is that most are using re-coned/SH parts with new bearings and tube.
The going rate for this sort of prop is about £75-£80. But for a prop made of brand new parts expect £120-£150. The problem is sussing whether you are
realy getting one made of new parts. But most do not use new parts.

I paid £159 delivered from Autoprop recently. I thought that was quite a good price

Hi those prices are for basic one piece jobs. If you are using two piece with centre bearings or TRT type jobs the price will go up. It pays too shop
around and ask exactly what you are getting.

well i've phoned a few places up to get an idea of prices,
Premier Prop (Nuneaton so no postage for me)
130 + vat, 1 week turnaround
Dunning and Fairbank
110 + 12 del + vat, 2 -3 days turnaround
Bailey Morris
(asked about power rating, decided smaller uj - 1140 series is more than up to 150hp)
120 + 12 del + vat, 3 day turnaround.
Got a couple of other local coventry firms to try but i think Dave Mac is going to get my money. Just need to sort out drive shafts now, suspect Dave
Mac will get that job (friction welded at 100 quid inc vat) if Martin Keenan doesn't want the job.
