loan of an M18x 1.5 tap
bpgoa - 7/2/07 at 11:32 PM

feel really cheeky, but would anyone loan me a m18x1.5 tap? ... I'd pay for the return postage or I'm based in Hertford if anyone lives close.

I'd like to make some wishbones this weeekend but don't own a tap... and their kind of expensive for just two holes.

Thanks

Adrian

I'll tap them in the lathe(turning slowly by hand).. so i'd probably get away with just a second ... and run it through... if you have a third as well though

i'll u2u my address... send me yours for the return....

and big thanks(said quietly)...

P.S. it's for the transit ball joints ... M18x1.5 is M18 fine?

A hint - don't fully-form your threads then weld up the wishbone, as threads make get spoiled and the hole distorted (guess how I found out...). If nothing else, the threads get covered in oxide that should really be cleaned off.

If I was doing it again, I'd make a few turns until the taper tap was fully engaged and thus lined up straight, weld up the wishbone (taking out the tap first!) then finish the tapping at the bench.

Just my 2p's worth...

David

Thanks...

I'd much rather learn from other people mistakes than my own...

(why do kids not do this!)
