cost of bike engine kits
buncefm - 23/6/07 at 09:36 AM

cant find any thing on price of bike engine costs using the search, so what kind of money are you looking at to install a zx12 engine? also how does it compare to other options ie: busa, fireblade, R1 and so on......
just while im thinking, does anyone have a comparison of performance of all the above engines?

general costs would be an exhaust (3-400), a sprocket adapter (£50), a prop (£200), and an air filter (£50ish). Sorting the gear link, clutch and throttle will add another £50. Then there are engine specific things, like does it need a chopped sump, surge plates, dry sump etc. Oil cooler? Standard clocks or digidash?

search for malc at yorkshire engines.

buncefm - 23/6/07 at 09:49 AM

my old mans just built a x-flow but now im keen to get some thing with a bit more umph and a nice soundtrack. thanks for the input

buncefm - 23/6/07 at 02:03 PM

its goin in a spire gtr, just thought i'd mention

gttman - 23/6/07 at 02:40 PM

That makes a difference to cost as the engine could be mounted in the same way as the bike and thus not need dry sumping (I am thinking busa).

ChrisGamlin - 23/6/07 at 02:44 PM

It may also not need a custom manifold because you could possibly use the bike's manifold.

buncefm - 23/6/07 at 05:05 PM

bpgoa - 23/6/07 at 06:17 PM

this is a good chassie as well the motor works well with it

as far as zzr14,s go i have sold 6 now all to car builders in fact spire has one and will be fitting it soon
i have ridden the zzr14 and its awesome and i have ridden fast bikes all my life believe me its quick

JoelP - 23/6/07 at 08:27 PM

malc, how much power does the 07 zx12 produce? Im guessing it must be 200 is the zx10 is being quoted at 180?

Hellfire - 23/6/07 at 09:04 PM

Joel, the ZZR1400 replaced the ZX12R in 2006. There is no 2007 ZX12R

i see! The extra 400cc didnt make much difference then did it, a mere 20bhp!

And about 30 lb-ft of torque.

I am sure that when I looked at the red demo GTR the engine was mounted at 90 degrees to what it would have been in the bike, so you would get the oil surge issues

JoelP - 24/6/07 at 08:03 AM

id expect surge anyway myself, as the forces in braking will be similar to the cornering forces, over a g, so the oil still gets pulled one way or another. In the bike the engine leans so the oil doesnt feel the full lateral force.

Hellfire - 24/6/07 at 09:03 AM

The 12 has a massive belly (not flat) where the oil pick up pipe feeds from, IMO there isn't much chance of it going dry under normal use. Trackdays and racing may be a different matter...

your definately right.

It was more of a general statement that the fact that its a midi could make a difference to the engine cost, and what mods are needed to fit it.

I can recommend Malc. Great service with the '06 R1 I had off him last year and he's been loads of help with questions and stuff since then.

buncefm - 25/6/07 at 05:29 PM
