cable operated calliper for a 5mm thick disc
smart51 - 4/6/10 at 09:58 AM

I'm looking for a cable operated calliper to be used as a hand brake that will work on a 5mm thick brake disc. Kart brakes seem to be hydraulic now and MTB brake discs are too thin. Any ideas?

the older honda CB125 bikes had a cable operated caliper on the front

problem is that you will be very hard pushed to find one thats in good working order

are MTB ones in 2 halves? if so why not make up a spacer plate in the middle to accomodate the thicker disc?

I have made hydraulic calipers wider this way with no problems, as I needed to make it clear the chain as I was running a sprocket brake

Land Rover transmission brake disc conversion. May be of some help....

Suzuki kit may be better, and cheaper!

Airheart still makes kart brakes, and if you could find a distributor in England they'd probably be a fair bit cheaper.

I'm pretty sure the Wilwoods are a nicer copy of these.

You could rob one off an old Jag diff, with inboard brakes. They'll work on very thin discs.

Hi smart51.
when I was trying to find a rear calliper to use for the hand brake on my three wheeler I bought a Suzuki burgman calliper which has a hydraulic foot brake and a cable handbrake in one unit.
I didn't use as I went for willwood callipers working on the two front wheels.
Regards Denis.
