Finally got my 2nd rolling road session today and up from just over 100 bhp to 120 bhp.
Think my end can is too baffled and long (mnr long one) and is limiting more power.
Quaife also sucking some horses i suspect.
Happy though as she pulls like a train to just passed 8k revs
just thought i'd share my good news.
end can? how many cans do you have?
Hi Richard,
mnr can on mine too, & quaiffe. 134.5bhp at the wheels
GeorgeM
yours is fuel injected though George?
Just the one end can.
4 into 2 into 1 manifold.
my main jets are now up to 150 but i'm reluctant to go bigger in case change in can throws it all off again.
what engine do you have
1999 carb
forget the engine model info off hand
weight is 462 kg without driver

thats a bit better than previous mate. should pull like a train to red line though! mine does on 2001 5jj R1. 133BHP at wheels
a lot happier with that
graph shows it pulling hard to 7900 revs, it dips a tiny fraction then pulls pretty straight and hard to 9800 revs (108mph)
Got a KOSO speedo so the revs might not be entirely accurate as compared to the bike original clocks. (koso not great at being set up for revs)
Thats a healthy increase. I have often wondered if the MNR header and exhaust has a big enough bore as its about 10mm smaller that of the bikes. Also
are you getting any cool air into the bay as maybe heat soak is taking effect?
[Edited on 30/7/09 by bassett]
120 from a Carbed R1?
massive fan pushing cool air direct at the front of the car, bonnet off.
ReMan - yup
thought about cam timing but think its very unlikely
but at what revs is she putting out 120bhp if its at around 8500 to 9000 then that sounds about right but its max hp should be at 10500 ish
Hi Richard
sorry mate, only teasing
120 is a LOT better.... Get those revs up
I'm sure you'll get a bit more, 130 would
be good enough from a 5JJ
It must feel a lot different to a few months ago
Now enjoy it
GeorgeM
My point exactly!
I'd have thought over 130
893 Blade is 120

cheers folks,
120 bhp on the graph was at 9793 revs
think it is still running a bit lean top end.
fuel flow is constant just under 3 bar pressure
it really does feel massively different to when it was at stoneleigh.
in fact even much more noticeably different after yesterday, despite it peeing down as i was driving.
not sure what to do next
if i sell it then i cant justify any more expense on it as i'm not working.
if i get a decent job soon then i might keep it and change the exhaust and manifold to a 4:1 and not my 4:2:1
i'm tinkering with the idea of the MNR mazda with a turbo like the demo.
all depends on work
if its 120hp at 9700 thats quite good with some fine tuneing it will be 130hp ish at 10500, remember the bikes were quoted at 150 but made closer to 125 at the wheels
Hi Richard,
TBH I don't think the small improvement from
the 4-1 would justify the cost.
Might be different if it was for the track.
Use it & enjoy it, it'll still be quicker than most cars
on the road.
GeorgeM
- just read your post again, surely if you already
have 4:2:1 you wouldn't want to go the
other way?
[Edited on 31-7-09 by GeorgeM]
think i'll use it a bit and see how i get on.
if i get no serious buyers then i might change the cans etc.
the 4:2:1 is very long and with the long can it only just clears the rear wheel arch.
might be worth looking at increasing the main jet size to 155 or 160 maybe but i'm happy for now as its faster than my driving ability on normal
twisties. the private road kind of course
Richard, we'll have to meet up one sunday soon.
I'm sure Steve would be up for it too.
We're only about 20 mins from the tunnel !
GeorgeM
sounds like a good idea
