After Failing my SVA on trim and emissions and that bloody dash.
I had the retest last week and my diff locked up on the way there so i had to cancel and managed with help from Andy and Coozer to get a spare diff
and put it in, I went for my re-sit today at gosforth or should i say i didnt.
I managed to get a hour off work to take my car so got the car ready last night and all my stuff sorted so i could just jump in and go to appointment
and arrive with 10mins to spare, i started the car and drove off drive, got out and shut the garage and my car stalled as it was cold it was lumpy as
usual (no warm up enrichment and running lean to pass SVA) and it just wouldnt start again, for no apparent reason and then i relised it was the
starter stuck- its brand new unit ive only had it few months. so had to get car in garage and bash it a few times.
So too cut a long story short - i got it fixed but was going to be 10-15mins late for appointment i phoned them to let them know and i said possibly
15mins and they just couldnt they where too busy(which i understand)
Absolutely Gutted. My 6 months retest time runs out 14th Oct and they are no more appointments.
So i dont think there is chance of getting a badly running 1998 highly tuned engine in a 3 year old MNR though a IVA.
So im giving up. ill be selling car as a hole first if not ill be selling all the bits.
I'd try driving over to the SVA test centre and start begging! I certainly wouldn't jack it in- not so close to the finishing line anyway!!!
I would book a few track days in to shake down and build enthusiasm for it again. Then look at a retest later on.
^^^^have to agree with ben....your so near
bad news.
I've been there and I'll say only this-
Have a beer or two. Forget the car. Calm down and think about it all in a couple of days.
Everything is usually solveable, given a bit of time and head scratching...........

Agreed.
I seem to remember you posting once you'd somehow spent £20k on the car.
For the £1000s you'll lose if you do sell it now, you might as well.
Take cake and whores with you if you have to, but it'll be worth it!
Good luck!
James
I was in a similar position in that I just absolutely couldn't take any more weekdays off work before the retest expired and VOSA said they
couldn't get anyone to do a weekend test as it was only on an overtime basis.
I was on the verge of losing the plot as they are a public service and offer weekends on all their documentation and I thought they were just trying
their luck.
Anyhow, a bit of sulking and asking questions about IVA and they offered to do an after hours weekday test starting at 5pm. It cost a bit more and tbh
was rushed through but it solved the problem for me.
Why not do a bit of pleading and see if you can get an after hours test?
Ive been on phone all day and they keep saying no, although the tester is supposed to be ringing me back tomorrow i dont hold up much hope, but even
if i do get a appointment i couldnt take it unless it was this sat. Ive had lots of favours from work, no more hols too take and ive been off for a
good few sick days due to my ulser and other illness.

Remember anyone can present your car for you at SVA. I have no idea who, but someone on here might well be in a position to trailer and present the
car for you for beer money. I don't know, but it has to be worth a try.
Everyhting looks unsolvable at times like these - but sleep on it, and there will be a way. If it were me, I would not give up until I had exhausted
every option open (and not open) to me. It will be worth it in the end.
Kris,
That is really bad news. I got terriable close to that too - it is the risk I took, but I got lucky despite a distaster a few weeks ago.
Are there no local locosters who could take it to the SVA test on your behalf? 14th is a week away, and quite a few have trailers on here...surley if
you are sure it will pass then it is worth it
Just an idea, but even if you have to cover costs it will be significantly less than one IVA test.
If it all falls apart couldn't you write a letter to VOSA head office explaining that they were unable to deliver on the commitment of out of
hours testing, and so you are now forced to take the IVA test, and ask that as a gesture of goodwill they charge you a reduced fee? I doubt it would
work, but surely worth a punt.
It would be a real shame to sell up now, as you said the difficulties you have had will only get harder for IVA, and that is bound to put off
potential buyers thereby reducing what it is worth.
Any chance your ulcer could "play up" due to "stress" on the same day as your SVA retest? Its naughty, but how much do you think
you loose if you sold it as a track car?
Whatever happens, I hope it goes well - a few nice registered cars knocking round
cheap at the mo - maybe that would be a solution?
Gutted for you
there must be a way of getting the car to sva whatever date they give you, even if you pay someone.
where abouts are you btw
Where are you located and where is the test centre?
Put a CAPITAL LETTER post up for help to take it there for you. I'm sure someone will be able to help.
as above, where are you + test
I would gladly do it for you if within reach
GeorgeM
Im in Gateshead and SVA center is at GOSFORTH
bit far for me, wish you were 300 miles nearer
GeorgeM
Dont give up Kris, speak to david tomorrow
and plead for a test on saturday,
you have to much money in it to let it go.
ANdy
If i cant get saturday off, ill see if MNR can take the car and do what needs done too get to through IVA but id need a differant engine.
If all else fails i think ill strip car and sell all bits seperatly.

New engine....why? you have megasquirt. With megasquirt that engine should be easily mapped for the emissions test, or is there something ime missing?
Don't give up Kris, so close to the finish line!
Talk to Chris and Marc at MNR if you can't get a retest. I am sure they will give you a fixed price for an IVA test. And I agree, you should be
able to pass with the engine you have (although I live in Hungary, so have no experience). But don't give up! You have worked hard enough for the
car, you deserve to drive it and the joy of yoir first legal drive will make your forget all this pain...
Come on, cheer up!
Gergely
if mark and i can help we will only 40 mile away give me u2u nothing that cannot be sorted been there dont that cant stop now and well worth the pain
try carlisle for test
Hi Kriss
