£ 50? a tenner for OEM car one off ebay, that will be transparent, something aluminium is not, hence will allow you to spot any water loss or other coolant troubles quite quickly.

... but as you say, the diameter of the outlets should match the radiator/water pup but you can buy hose reducers if needed.

Probably at least as important as capacity is how big it is, to make sure you can fit it to be the highest point in the system....

you would have thought so would you not?

I was looking where to fit my header tank so thought I pop the bonnet on my volvo.

there is a curved hose from thermostat outlet to radiator with a bend that exceeds the max level in the header tank, not what I expected to see.

yet I have never had any cooling issues on my T5, done over 100 k miles and volvo have made many thousands of 850 T5s and I have not come across any cooling issues.

Daniel look at the header tanks that are fitted to citreon berlingo's they are perfect shape have suitable outlets and come with a level sensor attached so can be wire to a dash light and as there are loads of berlingo's on the road it'll be cheap as chips

P.S. loving the new Kit Car, you should get yourself upto our 1/4 mile drag days on the 17th & 18th of July@ Kirkbride
