Ooops!
chockymonster - 11/3/06 at 07:25 PM

We went up to MNR today to have a look over the kit and get an idea of exactly which kit I might order and what extra bits I might need.

We walked out having had the alignment sorted on my wife's car and £500 lighter having ordered an RT+

Now I get to start buying bits

Congrats, what's the lead time on your kit likely to be?

1st week in May is when I asked for it to be ready by.

Does the RT+ come with the lighter T45 chassis? If not, find out how much extra it is. It is quite a lot lighter and I wish I'd chosen that option.

The T45 chassis'd Vortx Super is quite a bit more as I remember... was above my £12.5k budget...

No,
The RT+ has a T45 roll hoop, rose jointed suspension and inboard front suspension.

Once I understood the difference in the setups I had to rethink things, I didn't want to buy the wrong kit and then always regret it.
I'm having to make some sacrifices but they're things I can add at a later date.

Marc will mix and match RT, RT+ and Super versions of the car if you ask. I didn't know this (or that there was a thinwall T45 version of the chassis) when I ordered mine, like I didn't know that you could have an RT+ without the full cage.

My point is that a thin wall T45 chassis is a lot lighter than the standard one. You don't have to pay for the full "super" spec to get it. Even is only half of the tubes in the RT+ chassis can be replaced by the lighter ones, there is still a good weight saving to be had and probably for not much extra cash.

Really, I'd speak to him about it.

Whats the point in buying a t45 chassis and then crippling it with outboard suspension and sierra uprights????

If you dont buy the Vortx Super in its entirity you are better off with the RT+ and ally uprights...

That way you keep the lower UNSPRUNG weight and rising rate suspension...

You are getting obsessed with power to weight Smart

Yes I am. That is me all over. No only am I obsessive but I have strong all or nothing tendancies. That's the reason I built the vortx and put a bike enigne in it. I've driven GTIs before and thought them a bit slow. I might as well drive a really slow car as a fairly slow one, That or a really fast one I just wish it were faster still

Talked to Chris about this today.
The RT+ rolling chassis is approx 30kg lighter than the same RT as a rolling chassis.

The RT+ in T45 would be another 20kg lighter than the standard RT+ but the cost difference is quite high!

Although I'm all up for keeping the car as light as possible I really can't work the additional expense into my already tight budget.

My car was built to a cost as well; not that it was cheap. all things are worth considering, even if you decide against them.

I know what you mean. I've had to rethink things, I've gone for the + even though originally I wanted the RT. Things have moved from the buy list to the wish list. I know it's going to cost more than I wanted it to but I think I knew that from the start!
