Hi Marc.
In a fuel injected R1 (2003 in my case) what have you done to connect the fuel pump (Bosch high pressure):
. directly to the bike loom (ECU drives it)
. to the car loom but through a relay commanded by the bike loom (due to amp constraints)
. permanently to the car loom

you need to connect it to the R1 loom!!!
dunno if they check it!
but its the only way of making the system secure.
When you put the loom on contact the pump wil run for 10seconds.
after that it will only run if the engine makes rpm.
in case of a accident and the engine stalls, the fuel will be cut of.
This is obligiatori in all injection cars.
On my honda loom the fuel pump relais gets it signal from the mcu.
and the relais powers the pump.

It must be connected to the bike loom (via the Bikes fuel pump relay), or you will not be able to achieve a stable fuel pressure and the fueling will
be all over the place...

Back on the subject of fuel pumps, what's the advised one to use for an R1? The standard bike one looks a bit open to the elements.
IIRC that will depend on which R1.
For carbed ones, the one from the bike.
For injected, unless you have put the original pump inside the tank (you would have butched the tank, then) you will need one good for 3 bar. Now and
then there is one on eBay. Bosch seems the most used.

yep fuel pump must run through the relay on the fuel injected models otherwise the ecu goes to limp home mode
been there and done that
from memory we used the original bike relay spiced into the mnr loom, removeing the original feed

Hi all,
Not wanting to put a spanner in the works, but the MNR fuel pump feed is perm 12v with the ignition on.
The 12v from the bike loom is switched by the puel pump relay. Is it the pump which controls its feed pressure or the fuel pump relay?
The only real difference I can see is the relay outputs 12v with ignition then continuously when cranking and running.
the pumps i have fitted have been same as a facet type pump constantly supplied with 12v

Ah righty, yeh constant delivery in otherwords. Did you use a filterking reg with them?
I think, bike pumps have a sort of idler and are not constant delivery. Ill know better when I fit the new pump but I expect if it was connected to a
perm 12v feed would flood the carbs if there was no way of shutting off when the floats were full. This of course could be controlled directly by the
bike pump as I cant see how the relay would know the float bowls were full.

My R1 pump is fitted to the MNR loom and is on with the ignition. The pump clicks rapidly at first (if the car has been off for a few days) then
slows down and stops. Once it is up to pressure like this then it stays stopped, although once the engine is running, you can't hear the
pump.
I've done almost 3000 miles in 6 months and it's OK so far.
Yeh that backs up the theory that its the pump which controls the pressure ie as soon as x amount of pressure is felt in the line to the float bowls,
the pump slows and stops until its needed again.

Although we are all speaking about the R1, "re 2002" and "2002 on" work very differently. Actually the pre 2002 has a fuel pump
relay that the 2002 on doesn't have.
Even so it seems that would be wise to connect the bike loom fuel pump connector to a relay controling the permanently on of the MNR car loom.
