She lives!

With the help of Malc at Yorkshire Engines and a bit of input from the BEC mailing list I had another go at the wiring today.

With all that I knew about connected the fuel pump would have whirred (read test bulb lit) and the starter cut off box clicked.

I checked all the wiring and couldn't see anything wrong so a quick call to Malc had me sorted. I hadn't pressed the start switch! As soon as I did it tried to spin over and the spark plug was sparking.

A quick pop down to the petrol station and a five litre can of petrol later I was back sorting out where the petrol was leaking from! Note to self, make sure all jubilee clips are done up tightly. I then disconnected the temporary hose that joined the feed and return in the engine bay and plumbed it back to the engine.

Reconnecting all of the wires to the battery and fuel pump I crossed my fingers and pushed the button. After about 15 seconds of spinning over there were a couple of coughs and it fired into life!!!

I expected it to be loud but nothing prepared me for that noise! (maybe I should have put the silencer on?)

Nice work. I first started mine without even a manifold. Yes it was very loud. My 80 year old neighbour, whose garage I used to build the car, jumped clear out of her armchair in one clean movement. She didn't know she could do that.
