Marc ready for Mallory?
TimC - 2/3/07 at 02:40 PM

I'm thinking of going up to Mallory next weekend for the RGB. Does anyone know if Marc's entered? I'd e-mail or phone, but they're no doubt busy.

GazzaP - 2/3/07 at 02:45 PM

If you go on to the 750mc website there are the full list of competitors for mallory.

hope this helps

gary

TimC - 2/3/07 at 02:55 PM

Cheers Gazza.

That'll be a no then. Shame.

marc n - 2/3/07 at 07:38 PM

yep all ready
unfortunately by the time the 750 mc sent me the entry forms in hard copy ( pdf email version wouldnt work on all 4 computers ) no space left
even paid and had the test organised for this week but seemed little point in going as i cant do the first race, with that and the wedding i will now miss four rounds so might not even bother with rgb and convert the car to do somthing else

best regards

marc

progers - 4/3/07 at 09:42 AM

Hi Marc,

I know of at least one person that is struggling to get to Mallory even though they have a confirmed entry. I would imagine if you are first or second reserve you would be almost guaranteed a race.

Worth checking with Robin

Cheers

Paul
(RGB No 8)

marc n - 4/3/07 at 10:37 AM

hi paul
think i am on the reserve list not sure which no. though, car is ready to go in the back of the truck and race so will just have to see, although there is a bit of question mark if my spare engine is ok at the moment, still awaiting to get my other one back which spun the bearings in the crank
hopefully see you there

best regards

marc

ChrisGamlin - 4/3/07 at 03:50 PM

Yep, Id imagine as its the first race of the season there will be quite a few entrants burning the midnight oil trying to get their cars finished in time, so there's bound to be some that don't manage it and have to drop out.

marc n - 5/3/07 at 08:47 PM

yep paul was right, now entered for mallory

Cool!

I was going to watch some testing at Pembrey but providing the better half hasn't made plans, I will try to make it.

progers - 6/3/07 at 09:09 PM

Good news! It will be good to see a few more "sevens" represented in RGB. I'll try and pop over and say Hi. Good luck!

- Paul

ChrisGamlin - 6/3/07 at 09:54 PM

Are you not racing then Paul?

progers - 6/3/07 at 10:39 PM

Yep I'll be there, I just meant I'll make the effort to waltz over to the luxurious MNR race transport and introduce myself :-)

Agriv8 - 6/3/07 at 11:49 PM

youll have quite a Waltz if you want to get to the luxury race transporter as I think it is being left in yorkshire think the plan is travel light and fast!!

But you can come over for a chin wag anytime.

G.Man - 11/3/07 at 08:34 PM

hope we find out soon

marc n - 11/3/07 at 10:30 PM

well im back
Not a good day im afraid
went out for qualifying did four slow laps to make sure i qualified for race, then started to push the car first lap got baulked in traffic, second car would not rev cleanly or hard enough and started misfiring and started to pull off track then came back to life then third lap engine overheated enptied all its water and scoulded my feet game over, qaulified a pitifull 20th i think, spent all afternoon changing end can ( too much back pressure on my alloy one ) not allowing it to rev ( couldnt even get on the rev limiter ), bleading cooling system, cleaning carbs, draining fuel tank and refilling,
Started race made a great start car absoloutly flying made up i think ten or more places from the start and on the run up to the hairpin car pulling like a train then unfortunately the poor chap in front braked a lot earlier than i expected it caught me totally unaware and i ran up the back of him, cycling wing bracket bent and ripped front flexi hose off game over
all in all not agreat day. although after our tweeks between qualifying and race the car was running on song again, i guess it shows i should have been to the test session to iron out the little problems encountered, the over heating was caused we think by an airlock car has not run for a couple of months so would explain it
On the positive side
1. although the engine is not top notch and a genuine scrap yard engine we did have it running pretty well for the race and in a straight line seemed only lacking a tad on the others rather than three to four car lengths in qualifying
2. The cars turn in and traction was awsome even more so when we stiffened the rear slightly
unfortunately i was a little rusty
roll on donnington ( hopefully may be able to do a track day to ensure the overheating is fixed beforehand ) and we should be able to a little more preparation before hand
It was always going to be a long shot doing the first race with no testing, but i thought we might be able to wing it

best regards

marc

TimC - 12/3/07 at 07:43 AM

Was rather gutting to be watching from the hairpin that's for sure.

I have to say though, RGB is just awesome to watch. That T5 Mission is seriously quick. If anything catches that this season it'll be bl**dy amazing!

All is not lost for 7-shapes either - A Westy (I think) finished fourth.

Agriv8 - 12/3/07 at 08:33 AM

Was going to post somthing last night But My laptop seems to have decided that it is not going to let me acess Locostbuilders.

Marc there is one way of looking at it - at least we have room for improvement for future races. re the track day nahh stick the plates back on and we will spend the day avoinding the undercover police Scubbies in north yorkshire

marc

what engine are you running?

bad luck on the day, but thats racing mate...

marc n - 12/3/07 at 11:36 AM

hi mark running a fitreblade 919 cc

just checked the car on the scales etc everything as it left here so no damage apart from possible engine adfter over heating a wheel arch nosecone and flexi hose

strangley enough though i did actually enjoy the day, the other competitors all seemed very pleasant and the whole thing was so much more relaxed than im used too, really looking forward to getting the engine dramas sorted and having some good races, im more than confident in the chassis and suspension the car felt great, just need a few more hp and a cooler engine and finish a few other jobs on the car and we will be right up there, as timn says i dont tghink there is a deficit on running a 7 aero wise as tghe westy was pretty damn quick down tghe straights

best regards

marc

G.Man - 12/3/07 at 11:55 AM

Ah is that the only engine you are allowed then?

Guess its the fireblade class you decided upon in the end then.. hehe

One thing to check is the fitment of the rad cap on the header tank, coz if you remember I had problems with the "outer" part of the cap not sealing properly and as a result if it overheated, it dumped hot water all over my feet rather than down the overflow hose (and over the track hehe)

I eventually replaced the cap for a higher pressure one with a lever lock, and that cured the problem..

No matter what, the header tank filling should not blow water out of anywhere but the hose, so I reckon you have a similar problem to me...

My other problem was the pump not moving the water fast enough, but that was cured with an EWP80 water pump...

That wont be your problem, but you may wish to consider fitting one and removing the engine impeller, as it releases a good few more hp at the top end... remove the thermostat and add the controller for better engine temperature control..

Agriv8 - 12/3/07 at 12:05 PM

Remove that stat , we looked at that option and it hasnt got one in,

Personally dont like the idea as is some case it needs the restricted flow to work correctly.

maybe another item to place on the to test and try list is a 'Gutted thermostat' Ie running just the restrictor O. know this is OK on my V8 ( once had one stick shut on the V8 buggy ) but not sure of best practive with the bike stuff.

regards

Agriv8

TimC - 12/3/07 at 12:10 PM

Enjoy yourself this year, win Class A in the LMP next year. What could be more simple?

marc n - 12/3/07 at 12:25 PM

thing i cant understand with the cooling is the fact we ran this car last year in the same config with two people in for a longer duration and never had a problem, thats why its gotta be an airlock

best regards

marc

marc n - 12/3/07 at 12:26 PM

quite like the idea of staying in class c with the seven and maybe doing bikesports in the lmp then i can race both

Dont need any restriction with the EWP controller, as it changes the flow rate so you can keep the optimum temperature in the engine... You dial in the temp you want on the engine and the pump takes care of the rest... worth £200 of anyones money, and you will see a lot of people running these in the BEC classes..

The thing with a thermostat is that you really want to have the best possible flow potential, for when you do need the cooling, keeping an engine warm is not a problem by lots of methods, but cooling as much as possible, always adds some excitement... trust me on that one, its taken me ages to fix the cooling on my zx12r, header tank cap, new 4 core race rad, and eventually, the final fix, beefed up water pump and removal of thermostat.. And bear in mind, the temp here in cyprus is MUCH lower than UK summer, and this was with the engine idling, not blasting about!

Airlock sounds entirely possible, I dont dispute that at all, what I am talking about is changes you can make that will liberate some powah!

Even with an airlock, if it boils over the water shouldn't have soaked your legs unless you dont have an overflow pipe attached to the header tank or the cap does not tighten down properly so the seal is effective... that was the problem with mine!

Remember what you said to me marc, get the right stuff now, and then you wont spend the, money later...

matt.c - 12/3/07 at 09:30 PM

sorry to hear of you bad misfortune marc

Dont worry mate, you win some and you lose some

Will be routeing for you all year

Best of luck in the next race.

Cheers marc

progers - 14/3/07 at 02:31 PM

Hi Marc,

Good to have met you at the weekend. Sorry your race didn't go so well

My race wasn't all that great either, had gear selection problems during the race and lost loads of places hitting false neutrals coming out of the hairpin..... Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Roll on Donington, cant't wait.

- Paul

P.S. Did you realise there is an allcomers race (+ practice) as well at Donington - good chance to get some practice in for the RGB race later in the day.

marc n - 16/3/07 at 12:19 AM

hi paul
good to meet you too
just changing another engine , not going to do the allcomers race it means id have to be there too early in the morning
although i may try and do a half trackday somewhere just to check if everything is ok, just depends on time still havent really finished my car properly yet and we are still finishing mathew lewis s car as we speak
see you at donnington hope you get the gear problems sorted

cheers

marc
