Ok folks......... how much will the wife (or future one at least) limit or restrict ones spending on a kit car......bear in mind it’s already built
and functioning..... ?????? so... trackdays, tweaking in the garage, research on the internet etc (you know what i mean!!!)
So please enlighten me on the future hurdles and hassle I must account for......
Russ
Flippant answer: In my experience the deal is very simple. You hand over all your earnings towards paying all the bills, and she gives you back some
spending money. The more you earn the more spending money you are likely to get back, but the less time you will have to spend it in. Then kids
arrive, and all bets are off...
Real answer: there will be things that are more important which need to be covered first (eg paying the mortgage/rent, food, etc) so expect to have
less disposable cash than before. And then once kids arrive, all bets are still off...
Having said that, mine OK'd me buying my Tiger (pre-kids) without any problems at all, and was grumbling at me recently because I'd not got
it back on the road in time for the good weather over the Easter vacation. So who knows? You have to take your chances just like the rest of us
Good luck!
Cheers
Richard
You have it the wrong way round. You are (or should be ) already married to the kit car with all that that entails - track days, shows, meets, kit car
magazines, hours and hours spent in the garage broken only by the nth viewing of your DVD of " A Car is Born" , bullshit sessions down the
pub and composing pleading letters to your bank manager.
You should be asking can you run a mistress as well ?

I wish you luck. It's a crap shoot...some stay the same, most change from Dr. Jackyll to Mr. Hyde after marriage when it comes to our "playing around" with our "toys" (when there are more important things to be done...like shoe shopping for her, or something).
i have less money and time, but she would never stop me doing what i want so long as i do my share of stuff and still spend time with her!
amy (my bird) told me the other day that she isnt ever getting in that thing, i suggested i drove her to lincoln in it to getsome new shoes.....
problem solved
we also have out own bank accounts but both pay into a joint account to pay bills, so we still have our own spendies
There will be not much time left to drive.
if you're wife will bring you kids, the time will be less and an hour is just 30 min
BTW. your money will be a quarter
It totally depends upon the woman.
My first wife was a leach and i was always penny less even though i earned a good wage.
she left and hey presto i have the money to build the Indy with all the best parts.
found a new girlfriend and the desire to complete the car died for a while.
the girl friend is now wife number 2, i've moved from a 3 bed semi to a 5 bed detached and i've never been better off or
happier
now to find the time to finish the Indy. at least she works some evenings and saturdays.
all the best
Ditch
Ah it's the classic joke....
Q. What have you done wrong if as soon as you get in the house your wife comes out of the kitchen to complain about how much time you're spending
in the garage?
A. The chain attaching her to the sink is too long....
Chorttle chorttle....
OMG, if my misses-to-be reads that I'm dead!!!!
My Wife bought me my kit for my Birthday!!!!!!!!
Hours of dragging her around shows must have had an effect, although it has cost me setting her up in business, a new kitchen, car and a holiday.
You're technically only limited to what she knows you've spent.
My missus got wise to the shinier the part, the more I spent, but she also knows I sold my beloved Elise to get the deposit for our first home, so is
more than understanding.
Plus I used to be in the TA, so the understanding has always been that, if I crawl around on cold january nights for £56 a day, then I can do what I
want with the money!
I found my time curtailed after marriage. Mainly sincer the wife dislikes the car. She wants comfy seats with padding (!!!) and silly things like windows to look through and a heater, and a stereo! Obviously told her that's not happening, so she refuses to go out in it! Which does mean I get to go play without her telling me to slow down, stop trying to put it sideways roung that corner etc etc etc. However, she has agreed to let me build an S2000 enigne'd car so god only knows how her head works.
My swmbo is just as enthusiastic about 'the car' as I am. In the early days she gladly accompanied me to the shows, but now her eyes just
glaze over when I mention Detling or Stonleigh.
Now that I am taking the car to shows (basically showing off ) she is enjoying the attention that the car is getting but I am sure her enthusiasm
will dissappear soon ............ but she is showing interest in the Murtaya so not all is lost
Am I the only one who pointed out the masses of money you make when you sell kit cars, as of course a finished car must be worth far more than the parts
Awwww you guys!!!!!
Fozzie
I must be old fashioned at 23
if my gf asks me if we can do something I dont mind the same as if I want to go in the garage for a few hours I would expect her not to mind however I
dont take the £$% and leave her sitting in the house for hours on end
On the same note she does what she wants with her money after she has given her bit to the house etc and I do what I want
I bet some have you have got these lovely chatty girlfriends at meets etc but when your home they sort you out
This is the woman you really want.....Sabine link

The only source of peace and quiet the wife has put forward so far is to buy her a Porsche! I'm hoping to placate her with a Murtaya (?), the scooby based thingy. She wants a roof and padding on her seat. Oh, and for the exhaust to not burn her arm quite so much! Ah, the flames.........(drifts off in a smiley faced way)
I am afraid only you can answer that question. By the time you can, it will probably be too late, however. Good Luck.
PS see if you can get her into a job that keeps her away from the house evenings...
OK, get rid of the SWMBO and get a SWITNNO.
Thats what I did and hey presto. more cash to spend and its my time, so I'm in the garage while she watches Corrie and I even get a cuppa during
the adverts.
