Using MNR gear lever and cable what way do you push/pull the lever for changing up gears on an R1 engine.
I have just fitted my gear lever and cable which is attached to the lever at the bottom. That means that when I pull the lever backwards it pushes on
the cable. The cable is attached to the engine cradle above the engine mount behind the cylinders, this means that it will push on the gear selector
lever and engage first. For up shifts I will have to push on the lever causing the cable to pull on the gear selector lever. This is the wrong way
round to how I wanted it.
The simplest method would have been to turn the gear selector lever upside down but the generator case is in the way so that rules that out. The only
other solution I can think of at the moment is to have the cable drive the selector lever from the opposite direction, from behind the engine, this
would mean making some sort of bracket to hold the cable but if it works that's what I'll do.
How have you got yours working?
Can you swap the fulcrum point on your lever to the end and attach the cable above it to reverse the action?
Easier way is to fix the centre of the cable to a fixed point and the sleeve to the lever you want to move. Simple but it works!
Caber
i've not got my engine to be able to check.
but i guess you can have the cable sweep in from any side.
do you have a bracket that the outer cable fixes onto? near the engine
think thats something i'm going to need to make.
There is a bracket on the engine cradle, it is just above the engine mount behind the cylinder head. I think the only way is to have it operate the selector lever from the opposite direction.
hi stuart
place the brackets on the chassis the opposite way, that will alter the way it operates
