MNR exhaust manifold fitting
stuart_g - 22/1/08 at 08:20 PM

I am trying to fit the exhaust manifold to my 5VY R1 motor. I have fiddled with this for hours now over a few days and can't get it to fit any better than this. I think I must be doing something wrong. All of the pipes are seated squarely in their ports but the manifold looks at a strange angle, it seems to be pointing upwards and outwards. I can't get the pipes to go very far into the collector either, at most I can get them in 3/4 to 1 inch, is this right.
I have taken some pics, please tell me if this looks right or wrong. Rescued attachment P1000370.JPG

Have you been heating up the 4 - 1 section, as it looks a different colour to the rest?

Ive got the 4 - 2 - 1 from MNR. i have fitted the 4 pipes to the engine, but i havent fitted the collector section to see what angle it sits at. ive had it all polished up, and the inside of the collectors smoothed so that it all fits together a bit easier, as before i couldnt push any of the 4 pipes in

The exhaust is exactly how it came from MNR, I haven't heated any of it. It's a good idea to smooth the collector pipes, they do go on individually but are tight as I would expect, It may aid assembly though if they are smoothed, I'll give it a go.

Got to say it doesn't look right to me. Is the engine cradle seated properly?

hi stuart

the whole assembly needs slackening slightly then pushing down which then should also bring exhaust in at same time

dont remove too much material from collector ( exhaust wont seal correctly ) should be tight ( then use a block of wood over the collector and a mallet to knock on

best regards

Hi Stuart,

Sorry cant help with your manifold but looking at the second picture it looks like you've fitted your oil pressure sender directly into the oil cooler bolt.

It needs to be remotely mounted on a flexi pipe the high frequency vibration of a bike engine will kill it in no time!

P.S i found out the hard way

Dave....

thanks for the advice Dave. Where did you get your flexi pipe from?

Most hydraulic hose suppliers will make you one up to the length and fittings you want. yellow pages would be a good place to look for one local to you.

My hose just appeared in my bag one day when i got home from work i have no idea how it got there
