MNR Bonnet Scoop
paublo999 - 12/10/08 at 08:41 PM

Hi Guys,

Anyone with one of MNRs scoops?

It didnt come cut or with anything to mount it? Was expecting captive nuts or bolts to allow it to be mounted.

Suggestions? Not good with fibreglass and now considering doing without it or sourcing an alternative.

Cheers
Paul.

Can you fix it with sikaflex or something similar.

Do you happen to have a photo of the scoop?

I think the best way is to stickaflex them on. There is at least 2 I can think of that have been done this way.

Mine has captive nuts but it tends to pull the bonet out of shape a bit. Plus drilling the holes was almost imposible.

black scoop on green doesnt look good either and never had any success in sikaflex looking good... I really dont think it would take much to embed capture fixings in a mould like this and really lets the product down....

anyone tried any other products - Carbon fibre ones that wont need painting?

Isn't there a lip on the underside of the moulding that you can put a thin bead of sikaflex on to? You wouldn't see any of the sikaflex when it is stuck to the bonnet.

front lip area yes, but around the sides probably not.. will give Marc a shout for options... thanks for all your help chaps..

This is probably what you want...

spotted it also... nice...

but...

can I survive on only one kidney....

need to put a halt on mods for the time being - haemorrhaging money at the moment.. this is the problem with buying a new car, rather than a fettled one....

Best not go for the carbon one then

paublo999 - 13/10/08 at 02:42 PM

good point, but carbon never looks bad...

actually we refer to it as carbon bling......

cant justify it through weight saving with my fat a$$ in the car..... maybe with little Lewis driving...

they used to have a return with fixings but when they where fitted they distorted the curve on the bonnet and made it look crap, best fixing is achieved with sikaflex as it leaves the bonnet with its curve

cheers

thanks Marc... gonna leave it until I have more budget to either get a scoop painted/fitted professionally..

I haven't had any luck with the black gloop in the past so wont pretend to be able to do this myself and get away with it without marking the bonnet... so will leave it for now...
