Someone on here suggested the above, and stated that they had their elderly parent on their policy to make it cheaper.
My insurance is due up next month so I've just looked into it.
Me on my own £460
With both parents £540
With either parent £480
Well that didn't work!
The idea is to add someone who is a lower risk than yourself, "elderly" people tend to be a larger risk than middle aged people. This usually works well for younger people are are a large risk anyway.
I'd have thought my mum who's never had so much as a parking ticket, or my dad who only retired because the dvla wanted him to have a medical every year would have been less risk than a 33 year old male.. Then again I guess I've been careful enough that my "chequered" history with speeding and crashing has been erased lol (hoping I haven't been caught by a speed camera van last week)
Unknown to me until recently, putting me on my stepsons policy has consistently made the various policies he has had cheaper, me as second driver on his 500 Abarth comes in £80 cheaper. Putting his mum on the policy added £18 on her own, while if he put us both on it jumped back up again with no saving.
You'd be better off adding someone of similar age.
I'm 32 and my wife is 33. When i put my name on her insurance, it came down quite a bit. She didnt make a huge difference to mine, but
i've been drving since 18 she's only been driving 7 years. It still reduced mine tho

My wife's only been driving a little over 2 yrs, adding my parents saved a few hundred also kept annual mileage to a minimum as with the value as they'll only pay book value not what it's worth to you.
I add my mum, and its about £50 cheaper, I'm 53 shes73
I'm 51 and my dad who's 76 added me to his policy and it reduced his premium by about £80!
Hypothetically, could you add a dead parent? I added my ma to my tin top policy just so she could use the car and they asked for a DOB and motoring history but never asked if she was still alive. It knocked £50 off my policy.
Always add my parents on to the policy as named drivers (until recently when my dad picked up some points). My mum alone reduces the policy by over £60. I am 30 she is mid fifties.
