Just come to start my car today (2.0l pinto) It has a brand new fully charged battery yet when I try to start it it is sluggish to turn over ( doesnt turn over fast enough) yet it did yesterday. AS I have said the battery is fully charged and if I have the lights on when trying to start it they dont dim at all so what could be the fault ?? has anyone else had this sort of problem??

Have you checked for a bad earth or battery connection to starter motor, will give a high resistance and slow cranking speed.

Yes, a bad earth would do that. Also a nackered or badly meshed starter. Check the starter bolts as well. If its moved, it might be trying to turn the flywheel at an angle.

so is that the engine to chassis strap and the earth to battery leads?

Take an earth from a starter motor bellhousing bolt to the chassis where the battery earth joins it. How advanced is your timing ? Too much advance can slow it down as well.
