Manual Gearbox for 7.2litre Mopar V8?

My mate and I are doing a conversion in an old Dodge Dart and it came with a crappy Auto Box, I was just wondering what car would be a good source for a gearbox for this monster of an engine. It should be about 500hp and 500ftlbs of torque before we charge it

If you believe the bec boys on here a hayabusa box will take that amount of power, and as it comes coplete with engine as one unit u could use the engine as a starter motor. It should be powerful enough though it might not have enough torque.

The american solution would be to uprate the auto box, and there are various kits available from US suppliers to do that.

We have a used Viper / Aston Martin type Tremec T56 in stock.

The T5 will need to be highly uprated if you want it to last.

thedrivenman.com do a 5 and 6 speed box designed for the jag V12 but can (apparently) take up to 7 - 800 horses

You might be looking at one of the older style yank gearboxes. Over here in Oz with the local fetish for yank V8's I recall the T-10 gearbox was very poular. There was another called a "Rock Crusher". All are deplorable 4 speed 'boxes more suitable for a small truck rather than a car and I recall the "Super T-10" fitted to a friends 300Hp GM V8 almost needed two hands to shift from 1st to 2nd. But I suppose it all goes with the territory if you must have an enormous lump of cast iron bolted into the front of your car.

P.S I'm no fan of the yank V8 in any form.

The orignal Chrysler trans would be a Torqueflite ---- that is far from crappy a very good transmission best automatic of its day.

that is the same engine as the jenson intersepter of the 70's, so a manual 2 or 4 wheel drive is available i guess from a breakers/salvage yard in england, just needs a look.

I should think the majority of Jensens were automatics, and with the chance of finding any big Jensen in a scrapyard being very tiny indeed, the chances of finding a manual gearboxl let alone one from an FF, from that source has got to be extremely very tiny and small
