light at front end

high guys, i have just recently purchased a mnr vortx firebalde, it seems to be very ligh and vague with the steering at around 80mph plus, is this common or is it needing a good geo setup

Probably down to needing a good set-up re castor, camber and toe-in.
Well worth the money to have it done professionally by someone who knows what they are doing.
Mine felt as if it was going into a tank-slapper until the local race shop set it up properly.

it's an outboard model, would just a geo setup do or would it require a full corner weighting as i am in west lothian scotland an not many places about that can corner weight, geo setup is no prob though

What you describe is exactly the handling you would expect if the suspension is toeing out on the front.
However check the tyre pressures before doing anything -- try 14 psi fron 16 psi rear.

If that dosen't give an improvement the course of action is

(1) Check/set ride heights as the car normally loaded (ie with driver + fuel )
(2) Set corner weights -- (again as normally loaded)
(3) Check front toe in (again as normally loaded)
(4) Check rear toe-in (again as normally loaded)

One cause of vague steering at speed is incorrect ride height - personal experience is that the car should ride a bit higher at the back. This is also Westfield's recommendation.

If it's a bit higher at the front the the wind gets under the nose and takes some of the weight of the front tyres.

Set the front lower wishbones parrallel to the floor, this will give you approx 100mm ride height at the front. Then set the rear ride height measured just in front of the rear wheel arch to 125mm. Castor will be built in already on your wishbones so no need to check but if it is still not right after setting the ride height then a good geometry and corner weight setup will be money well spent.

thanks for all your help guys. i'll do the pressures an ride height an see how it feels, wouldn't be surprised if it was wrong as the previous owner was a bit crap at doing stuff, i am going over the car fixing all his poor work,

yep it certainly is, previous owner wasn't a engineering sort by the looks of things, so just tidying bits up a bit, it's pretty quick but my toyota supra would still kick its ass all the way to a 100 and then well beyond

not sure how quick these carbed blade car s are supposed to be?
