Rear brake options
Hi,
I have the Vortx Super and being from the bike world the rear Sierra solid disks and calipers seams really heavy....
Any options? Drilled grooved "lightened" disks aviable. Iv been told the Golf alu calipers dont fit ...will hit the rim´s. Needing
handbrake, is Wilwood the only option?
Any lightweight option for whole hub?
Im from Sweden, so im escused...The Muppet drummer for president!!

Vauxhall (opel) vx220 rear calipers are lightweight and have a handbrake, however are designed for vented discs.

Aren't vx220 rar calipers made from cast iron?
Surely the Mk4 golf ones are lighter.
I was also told of the Pug 205 ones that are alloy.
BMW mini ones can also fit.
What size rims are you running? 13's?
Lots of things are a squeeze with 13's. You can change the disk (from Sierra rear, to Mk3/4 escort front) and turn down the hub. Then you have
some more space to play with (as the disk is smaller diameter and moves the disk inboard by a decent amount), although that disk is heavier.
It also depends on which wheels you are running.
Hispec make a very light calipers, there may be some question marks over customer service, but I haven't dealt with them. You can see the cost
yourself.
hispec they also have some where the cable directly acts on the pad (wilwood style). People
do seem to have problems with this (borderline force to pass SVA/MOT).
I agree the Sierra disk bake set-up is a big lump.
