MNR R1 Loom Fit?

Does the MNR wiring loom plug straight into the R1 loom or are there connections that need to be soldered up or modified heavily?

Any pictures?

Questions just keep popping up...

Chris.

My MNR loom just did the "Car" bits of the car. Lights, sierra switches, handbrake, fuel sender, instruments. There is a plug with engine bay connections and the mating shell and cripms.

You either have to make you own subloom which plugs into the main loom, or do what I did and use the R1 loom with the unused bits cut off.

The 3rd option is to use just the bike loom and extend it to connect to the swithes and lights.

I've put together a diagram based on the Haynes manual R1 diagram for the 5JJ, it basically shows where I will need to splice in the connections from the MNR loom to the R1 loom. I need to tidy it up and I haven't proved it out yet, but your welcome to have a copy. It might help you understand the connections (I spent a week pondering over the MNR vs R1 !!!)

Let me know.

Steve.

Yeah! That would be a useful resource to have Steve.

I'm sure Rog would be interested too as he's spent almost, what, 4 months wiring up his car!?

Chris.

I've put the picture in my Photo Archive.
The numbers and wire colours relate to the MNR loom, so you will need the MNR Loom instructions to understand it, and I plan to use the R1 clocks.
As I have already said, this is only theory and I haven't wired anything up yet, so please check it yourself. I wouldn't like to be responsible for any melted looms.

If you do see any errors please let me know

Steve.

Thanks Steve, looks fine at a first glance. Ive been through my loom tonight and labelled up all the connections, should save some time come final wiring.

Just one query, the handbrake switch, supposed to be yellow/I forgot, I cant seem to find it. I assume it will be around the tunnel area but the only one I can find is the reverse switch.

The Handbrake switch cable on the MNR loom is Black/White. It should be just a bit further rearward than the reverse switch wire.

Good call, its a thicker plain black cable on mine, but it con checks through to the brake fluid warning lamp connection so that must be it.

I thought that one was an earth of some description being plain black, dunno why i was looking for a yellow/

Ill have to strip the connector off and just screw the bare wire in to the hanbrake switch as theres no male blade end on it.
Cheers again,

Rich
