Differential Mounts...

Just a quickie to make sure I'm not going nuts...

Did most people get M14 high tensile bolts with four tapped out mounts on the diff for mounting? Or did most get a helicoil with M12 bolts?

What size are the two mounting holes on the top of a Sierra differential unit before tapping ot helicoiling? I'm thinkiing M12?

Thanks for any help,

Chris.

P.S. I would measure this myself but I've now loctited my diff in place!

Could be either Chris if Marc did it depends which way he was feeling.

When did you get yours done ?

Marc either taps to M14 or helicoils for M12's Depends on the original hole sizes.

If you are doing it properly Heliciols would be better but it would be dificult if your diff is already in mine is M14.

Cheers for that guys!

Thought I was going nuts for a minute there...

I was sure that I put in M14 bolts and then I noticed someone else was supplied M12 bolts.

I was confused... Not that it takes much...

It certainly seems nice and solidly mounted!

Chris.

Neither i got M12 helicoils and no bolts! I though i was going mad when i was trying Unf bolts in ha ha, luckly i had some M12's lying around in my van- some passenger lift will be misteriously missing 4 bolts now!

oh well

Just to let you know bud. A friend just bought a Stylus that has 300bhp and the differential mounts have broken three times... This is obviously because of the oodles of torque but also because high tensile bolts weren't used! The owner before seemed to replace them with mild steel everytime...

Just a word of caution about using any old M12's!? Maybe worth getting some high tensiles for peace of mind? Especially with a tuned Zetec?

Chris.

as always, the way it works is....

Nab what you need, tell the boss 2 days later there is some missing from the install boxes! he then sends you to pick some more up, you order twice as many and then you also get a spare set!

but i dont do that honestly!
