When to fit panel behind seats?

Hi All,

The MNR manual says fettle the panel that goes immediately behind the seats to fit and then put it to one side before fitting the body. But nowhere in the manual does it mention when it should be fitted and Sikaflexed in? Anybody know or advise what they have done?

Also, has anyone fitted the interior side panels before fitting the body? Or can they only be fitted after the body is on?

I fitted my panels before the body tub

the rolled edges of the bodywork make the panels difficult to fit after the bodywork has been set on .

I fitted the panel after the body but only because I didn't consider it before fitting the body.

The interior side panels can be loose fitted after the body work but during the rebuild of my chassis I choose to rivit them to the outside of the chassis before the body. This leaves chassis rails exposed and gives alittle mnore room round the throttle pedal for me size 10's

Hi Both,

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to fit my interior panels before the body in that case, as Markyb did. I'm using carbon fibre which is not quite as flexible as the fake carbon stuff, and I have separate panels to go either side of the roll cage upright (one of which slots behind part of the upright), so fitting them first will avoid the risk of not being able to get them in once the body is on. The forward panels that go in the sides of the footwells are simply not flexible enough to squeeze in between the chassis rails so I'm going to go with the idea of fitting them to the outside of the chassis like Coozer.

Hi,
We also have a full cage, so have front and rear interior panel sections. We have fitted the drivers side inside panel on the outside of the chassis for more legroom, but all other panels on the inside. Obviously we have fitted the drivers front piece before the body tub and all the others afterwards.
It helps if you trim all panels before you put the tub on for ease of measuring / trimming.
With carbon fiber panels I would advise you to put them on before the tub, as the fake C/F panels are flexible and this helps when you need to slide them under the lip on the tub.
One advice I would give is to put Sikaflex on the outside of the chassis rails before the final fitting of the tube to avoid rattling. And also, put sikaflex or silicone on the outside of the C/F panels where you put them on the outside of the rails as these will rattle, too with the tub.
