Failed Sva - Newcastle

I failed at newcastle but most of the items i did while i was there but he had already wrote them on sheet.

1) Steering rack extensions - No lock nut at track rod end (there is one at rack end)

2) OSF top suspension arm is not 2.5mm- Bit of U-Trim to sort

3) Front Mud guards no trim on inside- U Trim again- DONE

4) Rear Reflectors not to 2.5- Dremal and sandpaper

5) Dash lower edge not 19mm - NOT SURE WHAT TO DO!!

6) Interior panels not 2.5 - U trim - DONE

7) NS body panel effected by exhaust- cut hole bigger

8) Rear suspension Arm Bolt into hub have no spring washers.

9) Rear position of stop lamps 8mm too low - raise ride height

10) Mirrors distorted from vibration - Put Plates on back possibly

..... and the biggy

11) Emmissons should be 0.2 and they are 5.3 (oh bleep thats bad isnt it)

Havent a clue what to do with emmissions i got ripped out more than enough for the ECU tuning.

Kris.

My suspension is at full height at rear and i cant raise it anymore and i can just get my fingers under the wheelarches.

Probs get another 10 mm MAX on strut if i had stronger arms.??? is this normal to have suspension topped out at ride height- surely this will make the back a harder ride??

And what can i do with dash??

Thats what i was thinking also- Springs/Dampers are very short.

Im actually gutted about the dash board- The bottom radius is wrong size not 19mm, the only thing i can do with it is cut/drill the dash and fit foam to bottom edge as it has to be permantly fixed or glued!?!?!

Why dont MNR change the mold to meet SVA- Or have they?? im just really frustrated that ive payed all that money for a carbon fibre dash board and i have to wreck the bottom inch of it.

I remember having a problem with fronts, I had to get longer push rods.

Any one know what lenght they should be.

Jacking up and therefore wrecking your rear suspension setup to get the lights through is a bit drastic/a bodge isn't it?

Can't you just raise the lights a bit?

As for the dash. Can you glue a 19mm radius rubber tube under the bottom edge? At the end of the day it's to protect your legs in a crash so having it there permanently may not be the end of the world!

Cheers,
James

Sounds like the rear isn't high enough if you can only get 1 finger under the arch.

i had mine that low( 1 finger under arch) and got tyre rub on hard cornering so i've had to the raise the rear, about 2 fingers worth

with the dash how about some pipe lagging?

Mike Cookson came to SVA center with some lagging (cheers mike) but tester said that is not permanent enough, i have to cover it with vinal and glue or bolt it.

I dont know if i can raise lights without damaging the TUB and my dash is carbon fibre, so dont want to spoil it and only has to be protected on the passenger side.

For the dash, can you not replace the CF one with a ply made up one. Does not have to be preistine at this stage as the CF will be put back on later. It may be cheaper than destroying a CF dash.....

The Scuttle and the dash are all one piece on the MNR- its basically a box with the bottom bit open so you can put the wiring under- nice and neat.

My dash looks exactly like yours but with the gloss black insert and it was never even questioned. You sure he isnt on about the dash bars as that was a failure point on mine as the ally scuttle piece wasnt radiused so ive covered it in rubber mat.

for the mirrors have you got rubber trim/foam trim between the scuttle and tub as that should reduce vibrations and doing the same between the mirror and scuttle might help dampen it slightly. if you need to change mirrors, cbs mirrors although slightly unsightly are fine for the job.

Where my mirrors bolt through the sides of my scuttle panel i have bonded some 2mm alu flatbar in plate to strengthen it, and help reduce flex/vibrations

Hi Krismc,

Sorry, different subject, but what car is the gear leaver gaiter on your car off? And where did you get it?

I have a Serra handbrake gaiter that the parts place found under layers of dust on a forgotten shelf but they did not have and could not get a Sierra gear lever gaiter so I'm after one, or something similar like yours.

I fitted a special bit of trim to my dash on passenger side to make sure i didnt fall foul of the rad rules. Steering wheel side is largely behind the exempt area.

You got any pics of what you have done to dash to pass SVA- he only wants passenger side sorted just like you say the rest is exempt!
