F.I. R1 VortX Builders

Hi.

Beyond me, is there anyone using a 2002 / 03 R1 in your VortX?

How have you done the lower mountings?

Joao

Hey Joao.

Hope the motor from Malc was all good?

As for mounting, did you ask Marc to weld them into the chassis? The injected motor has the same mounts as the earlier motor too...

There are four and Marc uses these to mount the R1...

That picture's of RogB's VortX. Hope he doesn't mind me using it?

Hope that helps?

Chris.

with the o3 i tap the engines to m12 thread and use bolts either side rather than one long m12 bolt

Hi Marc,

Any reason that the '03 R1 you tap the mounts rather than use a long threaded bar?

Ta,

Chris.

not at all, but anyone looking at that should be advised that that is showing the engine in the wrong mounting cradle for that chassis!
(see how the lower engine mounts dont line up)

just thought i'd point that out.

Hi all.

My chassis has a M12 lower engine mount, where the engine is M10!
I'm afraid that drilling and tapping to M12 will weaken the engine mounts.

dont need to drill m12 tap staright in, we have 4 running this way 2 of which are on the road and have no problems, because of the way the cradle mounts the lower mounting stop the engine twisting all the weight is taken by the cradle,

main reason for doing this is the engine is easier to bolt up and remove

So would the tapping to M12 work on the earlier versions also Marc?

I can't see a reason why it wouldn't?

Chris.

Just to bring this one back, I have a 2001 5JJ model. Am I being a total wally cos an M12 threaded bar doesnt go through. M10 fits but its a little sloppy, do the 5JJ models need tapping out also?

Rgds

Richie
