Sump Clearance......?
.....or lack off!!!
How much Sump clearance do people have on there cars, what is the measurment....
a) The bottom of there engine to the bottom of the car ?
b) The bottom of there engine to the floor?
At the moment my engine sticks out 3 inches and the the engine is 10-15mm from the floor??
The springs are wound up around 2 inches, cant wind them by hand any further i need a tool!!! (c spaner)
and its not the sump thats the lowest part, the gear box fixing side of the engine is lower than the sump by around 1/2inch?
What do i do??
And if i do lift my engine up further, how much can stick above the top most rails (ie how much bonnet clearance should i have)
currently i dont have the bonnet, and the engine sticks 8 inches above the top most rail in the front of the engine bay (see pics)

That looks a bit low to me
You could raise the motor a bit or carry out more surgery on the sump and bell housing to improve ground clearance.
Mine hangs down about 1.5" and I think that is too much and I am trying to work out how to improve it.

have you got the 1.8 or 2.0 sump? I believe the 1.8 sump fits the 2.0 but is smaller (so less hangs down).
I've got from the floor to the lowest point of my car 4.25" (i think). Defo 4" and thats the bottom of the type 9 gearbox
bellhousing.

well the engine mounts made are for a solid mount set up- and are approx 3 inch square where they bolt onto a plate in the engine bay!
What engine mounts, standard or custom could i put between them? which will raise the engine by what ever size they are

im no good at that sort of thing, id make a bloody mess, and with only 3 mounting points id like the all the bellhousing bolts in place at the
base!

ive got the 2.0 sump, i cant get hold of a 1.8 sump and im eventually going to get a shortened one, but anyway the bell housing is the main problem!

ok, if its solidly mounted that implies for race use, tracks are smooth, you'll be fine (just watch it driving around the paddock)
If you mean road use, i really wouldn't go solid mounted (as people said in your previous question - i trust NS Dev's opinion 95% of the
time - the other 4% of the time i'm wrong )
On mine i had to modify my engine mount to lift it up. I got some wood, packed it under the chassis mounting until it was the right height, measured
it then went and bought some steel that thick (box section) and made the spacer from that.
Are you sure you've mounted your gearbox correctly? If thats too low it will affect it - but not by a huge amount.

My gear box isnt in yet?!? ive just put my engine in with the mountings flat hard up!
I gathered that i am going to have to lift the mountings i was going to use a rubber mount between the chassis and the mount i just need to know where
to get them and the approx lift they will give me?

On most Se7en stuff the sump is modded to be inline or at the same level as the bell housing and clearance is decided from there.Mine runs about
3" from the floor.Short legs y'see.

I've got two fake wooden mounts if you want them
mounts are something like 52 - 60mm thick for the round ones. Keep pestering me and i'll measure mine if no one else does.

depends on the GRP manufacture. I've asked the same question a number of times and never got an answer. With this being the MNR i'm sure
Marc will let you know if you ask nicely.
