Hi, ive read through the supplied software and connection settings for the PC3 but do you leave the laptop plugged in when you start the car - i assume so as it has a rpm counter but wanted to be sure so i dont blow my laptop.

You don't have to have the car running to see what map you have or to install new map - just hhok it up to a 9v battery and connect to your laptop. You will need the engine running if you are adjusting the map yourself i.e. like a rolling road etc.

Great thats what i thought but instructions only seem to go into plugging a laptop in and uploading a map then unplugging the laptop.
cheers

Should be able to play around with maps download/upload etc with out the engine running.

On my Busa PC I cut the RED wire from the red & black PC 'in' connector and wired this up to a switched live. This gave the pc a indepent 12v supply and meant I could power the PC with out the engine running.

I and others had problems with PC's on busa's with the the engine cutting out and not being able to start until doing this mod.

If yo want to play with it away from the car then as Moocho says you can use a 9v battery, but you'll need to get a small adaptor - Like this!!

ive just had a first play with my usb version too on my ZX12r engine install. The laptop can be left connected, and the engine doesnt have to be running, just the ignition on to power the unit OR like many others have said use a 9v battery.

I cut the loom down on mine and did question myself when feeding the red wire and earth into my car loom (was it an ignition switched live). When its fitted to the original bike this wire is plugged into the 'rear brake connection' so i had to double check.

Only problem i have found is all the downloadable maps dont suit my setup. Most of them say '2003 ZX12 with micron end can and stock or aftermarket air filter'. When i look at that map most of the number are minus's meaning its leaning the fueling out. I thought when you fit a better filter/exhaust it lets the engine breat more and you need more fueling?

oh well, looks like a weekend of LC1 mapping or a rollingroad tune £££.

Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

thats exactly what my car is doing going rich at the top end but thats on a dyno with no air being forced in .im going to change my filters for the duct type covers to help force some air in as thats what happens on a bike ,from what ive read the pc will resolve over fuelling but cant restore the power lost due to loosing the "forced "air supply that removing the airbox creates. with mine having two engines i need to spend over a grand to buy two pc,3,s and a mapping session where as the proper pipercross duct covers are around £300 for a pair and a sesssion on the road will show if the lambda has come down. both my engines made 100hp at the wheels which is pretty much spot on for a stock tl1000 engines but the lambda went rich from 7-10k but the torque and hp curve didnt show this only the afr
