a questions about Barclays
anyone know how much you can take out of a barclays account without having to give them prior notice? (as in if you were to walk in off the street and
take money out for your account)

I don't, but when I've gone in to give notice of taking out a large sum the following day they've always told me that I can take it
that day.
I'm not talking about tens-of-thousands but not hundreds either.

It depends on the branch, the biggest ones will pretty much give you what you want, the smaller ones may limit to as little as £500 without notice.
It all depends how much cash they keep on the premises.

I took out £5000 for a bike a couple of years ago but they wern't very happy about it, 90% of it had to be in £5 notes too so I had to walk up
the street with 2 bags with CASH marked on them with a breeze block of cash in each - heightens your senses a bit!
I had taken a similar amount a few months before and rang first, they told me on the phone that I shouldn't have bothered ringing first hence
why I didn't the second time.. pretty sure I was misinformed :\

Went into the Gnatwest last week, no prior notice and withdrew £3500 in cash from the
cashier desk.
Just used the debit card and pin, no other ID requested

Halifax have a limit of £1200. Plus £300 from cashpoint.
For more you have to arrange.

Beware that it is now in contravention of (I think) the money laundering regs to be wandering about with £10k or more in cash
(Just one of NuLabor's 4000 or so new crimes)

I did this recently my home town branch was not big enough to hold large sums so I had to go to a bigger branch in a near by town. One tip is to leave
it later in the day as businesses will have paid in takings from the day.
