Its been a while...
Right after a winter off and the weather getting brighter and warmer its time to crack out the measuring stick and start progressing again.
2 questions
1) whats the best way to affix the body to the chassis (zetec RTIB), I was thinking angle 'iron' off the chassis to the body or would
gluing it straight to the chassis be a better bet?
2)Best way to lock the MNR pedal box for IVA or will it need playing with after the cars on the floor?
I know these are simple questions but like the weather the old nugget needs warming up too.
Advice appreciated
John

Hi John,
my bodywork is just screwed to the chassis under the bonnet, and 3 more bolts each side underneath (all forward of the scuttle) Bolts through the rear
arches hold the sides in.
You will need the car on the ground well before fixing the bias bar.

I bolted the body to the chassis immediately behind the rear wheel cut outs, bolted it to the floor immediately in front of the rear wheel cut outs
and also to the floor where the body begins to narrow. It is also bolted through by the bolts holding the dash/scuttle to the chassis, and it is
trapped inside the nose cone (I trimmed the back of the nose cone so it will slip over the front of the body) and bolted through by the bolts holding
the back of the nose cone to the chassis.
This is where it gets different; I have fitted a full length undertray so have also bolted the body to that in three places on each side (the
undertray itself bolts to brackets that are glued and riveted to the chassis).

For me i had a slight problem where the tub flexed inwards during storage. Put the body on and off a few times and take tiny bits out of it till it
fits round snuggly. As for fixings i went for m5 rivnuts and large m5 washers to spread the load. Two each side at the rear, several along the bottom
each side where the most flex was, two each side where the scuttle goes and 4 each side on the top. Indeed it is a lot but was needed for the large
amount of flex that had incurred. At some points I had to use some spacers to bring the tub to the chassis which was just made out of some alloy tube.
The fixings under the nose and scuttle are are also used to hold these pieces on. Where the bonnet fits i put nut covers on the fixing bolts and it
makes the bonnet locate onto them giving it a very neat finish. Obviously doesnt look as neat in the engine bay as rivets but this wasnt an option for
mine.
