Unhappy MOT guys when installing new dash with 0 miles?
Good afternoon gents, I was just wondering if the mot guys would get unhappy if i got a new speedo which showed 0 miles?
the cars done about 10k at the moment so I dont want to put a black mark on the history of the car

Speedo isn't part of the MOT. Don't worry about it.

Can you have the new speedo set to show current mileage?

I think he actually mean he is replacing the clocks, and the Odometer is showing 0 miles instead of the 10k which it has done. Obviously the Current
mileage is recorded on the MOT Certificate.

The "new" milage will be recorded on the certificate but it will have no effect on the actual MOT. The only effect is if you try to sell
it and imply in any way that the milage shown is genuine.

Now MOT is computerised, will the fact the later milage is lower cause an exception??

I changed the clocks on my old car and took it to the MOT station with a few miles on it. The tester thought it would throw up an error when he put
the milage in the computer, but it didn't.
That was in 2006 and whether it's any different now I don't know.

No it has no effect. VOSA aren't interested in how many miles the cr has actually done. There only interest in the figure would be if there was
a failure and any subsequent claim that it should have been seen at MOT, when how many miles it has done since test becomes relevant.

if you ever end up selling it would help it you keep a record off the old milage (pic of the old clocks maybe?) and the recipt for the new clocks and
so on... just enough to show any buyer that its gunuine

If it's electronic, set the speedo to 10 pulses/mile and stick a magnet in your drill - you'll hit 10k miles in no time...

I'm told they all need some form of logging use. Normally miles but road legal plant do it on hours so presume either OK.
