Vortx Bonnet clearance
I had a chance to look at clearance under the bonnet yesterday and I'm quite concerned.
The bonnet is almost touching the top of the trumpet, with an airfilter on I can't see it fitting. Am I being overly concerned?

Mine is very tight with the blade lump and a carbon airbox.

That does seem a bit too tight. With the filter on mine there is very little space spare but its not touching.

I have very tight clearance with the trumpets on Paul. Most VortX builders (Marc included I think) remove the rubber trumpets and just fit the filter
straight to the carb bellmouths.
This gives you about 400mm clearance from bellmouth to bonnet. I'm not sure this is the best way to mount the air filter (in terms of
driveability and mid range), but without starting to cut holes in the bonnet then it's really the only way.
I see two real options...
1. Retain the airbox and keep the intake system as standard as possible (has been discussed on many occassions and I feel this is the best compromise
in terms of driveability (more midrange) and practicality (noise!)). But you have to cut a hole in the bonnet and fit a bulge.
2. Remove the trumpets and airbox and turn down the bellmouths to aid airflow at the top end. This does increase breathing at the very top end (an
extra couple of horses) but does decrease mid range.
There is a third option of turning the trumpets around 180 degrees so the bend in the trumpet points less upwards. (And therefore gives you a few more
mil clearance) and then fit a taller air filter to cover over the entire trumpet. I'm still not sure if this would fit though under a standard
VortX bonnet...
I am going to keep the airbox and make/source a bulge to cover the hole in the bonnet.
This is my personal opinion and before others ask, no, I don't have dyno plots of every combination to prove this. But I have spent awhile
talking to many people who have tried these combinations and have come to this conclusion.

yep i run with no trumpets on, i have also machined down the alloy bell mouths as i read it gave better peak power certainly seems to give it some
go
if you want to retain the trumpets then you will need a bonnet buldge
