removing brake pedal after sides
MNR specific this one:
Is there an easy way to remove the brake pedal after the interior panels and bodywork has been fitted?
fiddling with the balance bar it seems my pedal is very slightly offset from the 2 holes for the master cylinders (so slight I didnt notice until
now)
the problem is, it means that the threaded rods for the cylinders are at a small sideways angle at rest, and the more the pedal is pushed, the more
severe the angle, meaning they seem to give quite a lot of resistance. (can't be good for 'em..)
it could easily be fixed by taking 1/4 inch off the bottom pivot bar to move further over (it is already right up to the side mount side so cant be
spaced with washers)
BUT... the bar that runs though the pedal is so wide that it looks like it cant be removed after the bodywork is fitted... aagh!!
I could in theory take the same amount off the bar for the balance bar pivot but that would reduce the amount of adjustability... not ideal really.
(and would still need doign while the pedal is fitted. sounds uncomfortable!!)
any ideas?

could you cut a small hole in the interior trim that could be covered with a grommet afterwards. that is, would it give you enough room?

I would suggest the same... I needed to remove my brake pedal after fitting the panels but on my one the central rod moved out to the left, so I cut a
hole in the tunnel panel, then PUd an ali patch once the brake pedal was refitted.
Good luck!

Had the same problem with mine, luckily spotted it before body panels were fitted.

sorted now.. followed marcs advice of drilling through the ally sheet into the transmission tunnel.
It was such a pain in the arse to do at this stage of the build.. seats out, steering out, extremely uncomfortable, and the bar was a bugger to knock
back through!
I'd heartily recommend anyone building one to do this as early as possible in the build.. even if you dont think you'll need to remove the
pedals its worth the effort just in case..
in other news, I got an optimate thats identified my battery as being kaput and couldnt repair it (it lost charge even off the car) so Ive got a new
Varta one in and its working a treat.
So only a dashboard to fit now and no more excuses not to book SVA now... (eek)
