Help! - MP3 player up sh1t creek
I've got an Archos XS202s - 20GB of space, no video, etc. but sturdy, neat and does the job...
until yesterday when I got back from a business trip to find it would not start properly. I get the message "Read access error! Can't read
from hard disk".
I checked the Archos site and there doesn't seem to be anything to help and no, it's not still under warranty.
Anyone any ideas of what I could try? Is there a reset button anywhere, or have I got to fork out for a new player?

If you connrct it to your PC can you read the HDD?

forgot to say... if I connect it to the PC, the unit itself says it is connected by USB, but you can't see it on the PC

you could try and remove the internal battery and then put it back to see if that help’s I don’t think they have a reset button but I am not held

Connect it to your PC
Right click on the Gmini HDD icon & select properties
Select Tools
Run error checking program
Check box auto fix errors
This may take a while, be patient and you may have to restart windows.
Edit oops what OS is your PC? If XP or 2000 follow the below....
Connect to PC
Open a DOS prompt
At the prompt chkdsk e: /f Use e or whatever your device drive name is
Be patient!!

...but the PC doesn;trecognise the device - there is no Gmini icon or disk letter to get access to it
I've just taken the back off it and it looks like the ribbon cable connecting the hard disk the rest of it was loose, but I'm bvggered if
I can get it back in the tiny slot it came out of.

Don't think some have a reset. Hold down the stop button for 20 secs or so. That SHOULD reset it!

if by ribbon you mean a flexible clear plastic with copper tracks, then in order to put it back in first take it all the way out... pull out the
locking piece... holding the locking piece out, insert the plastic and copper cable then push the locking tab in...
hope that makes sense..
