Seat mounting
Hello all,
I've been looking at mounting the seat runner.
but on the old style chassis there are two bars running across.
is that something i need to make, or am i missing something!
here's a pic.

I wasn't sure if a few rivets and some clue would hold me in! even thou i'm not a fatty

you need to space seat up using some solid tube alloy etc
and you need to get some repair washers for underneath when you bolt up
repair washers are like load washers ie wider

So it would be ok to mount the runner on the ally floor, with some tubing to space it up a little. its just that the floor is only held in with rivets
and clue.

I wouldn't suggest bolting straight to the ally floor !! The stress through the fixings will work the ally and crack it.
You need to spread the load, I riveted some ply to the floor then mounted though the floor and ply.

I mounted my runners with 2 fixings directly 2 the floor with 6 washers under neath and the other 2 to the diagonal rail that you show in you picture,
i managed to pick one fixing up at the front and one up at the back...best of both worlds i thought!!
anyway its the seat belt that stops you in a crash!

Krismc, If you have gone through the diagonal chassis tube have you fitted anti crush tubes inside the chassis tube? just a thought as I believe this
is an SVA requirement. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont think the SVA man would take a blind bit off notice on somethink like that
on a Roll Cage would be different although not a good idea in the first place
PS I agree with the strips to support the seat however Ive seen plenty who have just gone through the floor and never had a prob

It was just a thought as when I did the mounts in my old RH2B chassis I read in the SVA manual that hollow sections should have anti crush tubes
fitted. Whether the SVA man would actually check who knows.

There is a very specific section in the SVA manual on seat mounting and the minimum seems to be "seat or runners bolted directly to the floor
with load spreading washers under the floor of about 50mm square and 2mm thick.

Ok thanks for the suggestions guys, i might go with the Krismc route having one half of each runner on the diagonal rail.........or something

i was thinkin of mounting one half of each runner on the diagonal with a M8 rivnut. so i'd need the boss to be that thicknes for the other half
of the runner. hope that makes sense.
or should i just mount them all on the floor, then i'd need the runner to clear the diagonal bar...... as you can tell i'm not really a
tape measure guy

dont use rivnuts, drill all the way through, a rivnut is great for fixing bodywork or trim but not seats or structual parts, send me an email of the
bosses and will sort
