Getting kids out of school
I want to take my little sister to scotland for a week in march but she only has good friday and easter monday off. What do i need to do to get her
off school for a whole week (without throwing a sicky)
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Just write a letter in (from the parent or guardian) telling the school you're taking her on holiday.
The schools allow, I think, 10 days in term time per year.

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.

Do the school Easter holidays this year not actually include easter?!

Not for my son, at least... the "Easter" holiday starts in April IIRC
Also, both my kids' schools have a "No holidays in term time" rule, i.e. if you take them out it counts as truancy

Easter is so early this year, most schools are having the actual holidays a few weeks later.
I think it varies from school to school. Some wont allow any planned absense during term time, others are ok with a few days.

Write a polite letter to the headmaster. Point out educational value of trip and that this is a complete one off. It would look good for you to
suggest that she'd collect her planned work for that week from the teachers too so it won't affect her educational progress. You can
always appeal their decision too but I'm sure if all else fails a personal trip to see the headmaster/mistress will clinch it.
Good luck!

agreed, a polite letter has always worked for me... I am not allowed more than a week off between may and september as a fridge engineer.. it's
our busy period.. once explained to the school they've been good as gold.. (we're off to florida over feb's half term).. no
problem..
Smile and wave boys.... Smile and wave....

See if you can suggest she does a schoolwork-related project while away - family tree, castles of scotland, Scottish industries, illustrated itinerary
if you're touring around - anything that might tie in with her school work.

My school never allowed holidays in term time and always refused when my parents wrote asking for permission. They just took me off anyway and told
the school to get bent. What are they gonna do? Nothing in my case.
Are you a Mac user or a retard?

Similar bitter sentiments to some of the other comments,
My mum and dad asked once to get me out of school and got some real grief and some sh*ty Letter home etc.....
Whats her right hook like?
A month later I was being bullied, and un provoked the lad hit me.... Guess what he got?
A week off school, parents never had to visit the school, nothing.. allegedly this is being "expelled and punished"..
But yeh a nice letter into the school wouldn't go a miss lol.

Tell the school its for religious reasons and if they refuse tell them they are being racist or something like that and they should back down
Where about in Scotland are you intending to visit?
Ps Have just heard Easter has been cancelled !! They have found the body!!
(sorry if that offended anyone)

A few yrs back i asked about taking my son out of school for a full year to go and live in the Philippines. His form teacher came back and said he
couldn't come back to that school if he left for a year and that I would have to prove he'd been to school abroad in his time away as
well.
I told her she was talking bullshit. For one thing they've no juridstiction outside of UK. For another what's the point in making him
go to lessons where he can't speak the language and three i'm a qualified teacher anyway. She wasn't impressed. If I were you
I'd take off whatever time you want as a sicky.
They won't do anything. There's too much bureaucracy in this country.

Just be aware that if you do take your child out of school without permission then they have the right to fine you! My ex got finned £100 each for my
2 daughters when she took them to blackpool after the school had refused (I must say that totally I disagreed with her doing it as well so stuff
her!)
Fine was imposed and collected by local council so no way out of that one!

Simply tell the school that you have become new age travellers.
..I'm not kidding.
There are a group of them at my daughters school.
They winter in a house & up sticks to travel in spring summer.
The school bends over backwards to help them. The children get tutor packs , free books etc.
If I ever have to face the situation you have, then I will simply say....
We are going on our travels!!!
