Fury at Bonneville
Chet - 6/4/13 at 09:38 AM

A well known Bonneville class record holder is interested in using a Hayabusa powered Fury to set some new records in 2013.

I have a real 235 HP, 1441 Busa with TTS OD gears built by Bob Carpenter ( USA Busa Expert ) for the engine.
We are now looking at a custom quick change diff.

Can anyone tell me the fastest known top speed for a Fury?

Thanks
Chet

I would guess and say Ruari's cossie engined car was the fastest Fury. Over 150mph I think.

I think it ran over 170 at Brintingthorpe........
My V6 went over 155 , but prop vibration stopped it going completely flat out !

Hi Claire,

Can you please share your experience with the Fury's handling at very high speed?

Does your car have any aero additions?

Car weight / balance / rake ?

Any suggestions to improve performance would be very helpful.

Thanks
Chet

Hi Chet,

You obvious you don't know Claire, otherwise you would have never asked her this question Are you sure you're prepared for the answer!

its an experience in itself being a passenger in claires fury! (I will say no more! )

All the best

I'm willing to risk the question to Claire because
.
.
.
.

1. To the best of my knowledge only a few people have been over 150 mph in a Fury ( soon to change though - LOL ) &
2. I'm safe here in the USA

You can see the above mentioned car here:

On the straights it's doing over 140 rock solid without even trying.

I've never maxed mine out but I've been to 140 and still accelerating a couple of times (gearing should take it to just under 150 @ rev limit). It starts to feel a bit (lot) light on the steering but stable. The back edge of the bonnet lifts a bit with the air pressure under it.

Running an 06 R1 though a Freelander diff'. 550kg split F49/R51% Aero wise... a full floor, rear diffuser and a couple of corner splitters on the front arches. The splitters did make it feel more planted at high speed and in long fast corners (all subjective though).

im just waiting to max mine out! im also on a freelander diff with quaife atb, but a bit less power with the blade motor.
it is however a 50mm lowered race cahassis, and is circa 430kg

I have never noticed any problems at speed - way back when it was crossflow powered it maxed out around 145 and was stable , the only `airo' on the car could be the bonnet bulge (which seems to push light rain over the screen , only showing small patches of rain on the top corners)
Balance-wise , it is within 5kgs front/rear (but heavy at 680 kgs) , I have never checked rake - it just looks right to me !

Alex - I'll have to take you for a spin in the V6 Mx5..........it a hoot

adithorp - 6/4/13 at 09:19 PM

Whats the record/class he wants to go for?

franky - 6/4/13 at 09:30 PM

surely a fury should go much faster than 150+mph if a brick 7 clone and do 155+?

Chet - 7/4/13 at 01:33 AM

FYI

Current Bonneville Records
Unblown Gas Modified Sports = GMS/
Engine size = 1.01 to 1.5 = H
Current record = 165.444 mph

Engine size = .76 to 1.0 = I
Current record = 150.181 mph

The I class record looks interesting.

My Phoenix did 163 at Spa (geared for 170) according to the GPS datalogger....but it isn't a Fury lol.

Bonneville requires a production minimum of 500 cars for these classes.

How many Phoenix have been formally sold?

Jeff-
What powertrain setup did you use at Spa to do 163?

Thanks
